January 2015 is TSN’s Most-Watched Month in Five Years

– Only the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games delivered bigger monthly audiences for TSN –
– Record audiences for the World Juniors, PINTY’S ALL-STAR CURLING SKINS GAME, COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF semifinals, and AUSTRALIAN OPEN catapults January 2015 to the second most-watched month in the network’s 30-year history –
– Overall, TSN averaged 230,000 viewers (Total Viewers; Full Day/24 Hours) throughout January 2015, marking an 18% increase compared to January 2014 –

TORONTO (February 17, 2015) – TSN kicked off 2015 with stellar audiences, ringing in its best month in five years, as final data from Numeris (BBM Canada) confirms that January 2015 is the second most-watched month in the network’s 30-year history. Overall, TSN averaged 230,000 viewers (Total Viewers; Full Day/ 24 Hours) throughout January 2015, marking an 18% increase compared to January 2014. This ranks second only to TSN’s all-time monthly record set in February 2010 during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

TSN’s strong ratings scorecard for January 2015 was highlighted by record audiences for the inaugural  COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF semifinals, PINTY’S ALL-STAR CURLING SKINS GAME, AUSTRALIAN OPEN, and the World Juniors – led by the most-watched broadcast in Specialty TV history – along with average audience increases for this year’s NFL Playoffs and SPORTSCENTRE, Canada’s flagship sports news and information show.  See below for a breakdown of ratings highlights for these properties.

January 2015 Ratings Highlights

World Juniors

  • TSN and RDS combined to average 7.1 million for the Gold Medal Game, ranking as the most-watched telecast ever on Specialty TV
  • Team Canada’s seven games averaged 3.2 million – the highest ever for a World Juniors tournament and the first time every Team Canada game attracted an average audience of 2 million in tournament history

Pinty’s All-Star Curling Skins Game

  • TSN’s annual curling skins game earned an average audience of 461,000 – the highest ever for the event
  • Audiences were up 40% compared to last year
  • The Team Jones vs. Team Carey semifinal and the women’s and men’s finals became the only TSN skins game telecasts to ever achieve average audiences over 500,000
