Record 1 Million Viewers Watched Last Night’s Toronto FC-Montreal Impact Game on TSN and RDS, Marking Canada’s Most-Watched MLS Game Ever

TORONTO (November 23, 2016) – Last night’s thrilling MLS Eastern Conference Championship featuring Montreal Impact vs. Toronto FC game had it all – including record-breaking ratings. Overnight data from Numeris confirms that an average audience of more than 1 million viewers watched the Impact’s 3-2 victory over TFC on TSN (595,000*) and RDS (429,000*) – making it Canada’s most-watched MLS game ever.

Overall, more than 3.6 million unique viewers watched some part of the Leg #1 match on TSN and RDS, with audience levels peaking at 10:27 p.m. ET in the final minute of regular time.

Last night’s audience nearly doubles the previous all-time record of 587,000 on TSN and RDS for the TFC-Impact playoff match on October 29, 2015.

This year’s Eastern Conference Championship marks the first time a Canadian team is guaranteed to compete for the championship title in MLS history. Coverage of the AUDI 2016 MLS CUP PLAYOFFS continues with the Eastern Conference Championship Leg #2: Toronto vs. Montreal on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. ET on TSN and 6:30 p.m. ET on RDS.

TSN also delivers the second leg of the Western Conference Championship featuring Colorado vs. Seattle on Sunday, Nov. 27 at 4 p.m. ET on TSN2.

Soccer on TSN
TSN and RDS are the official broadcasters of Major League Soccer (MLS) in Canada, with coverage of Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Toronto FC, and Montreal Impact, including MLS DECISION DAY, the AUDI 2016 MLS CUP PLAYOFFS, MLS CUP 2016, and the 2016 AT&T MLS ALL-STAR GAME.

Through a multi-year broadcast rights agreement with UEFA, TSN and RDS are the primary Canadian broadcasters of the UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE and UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE. TSN and RDS hold a multi-year broadcast agreement that gives the networks Canadian media rights to half of all games from the PREMIER LEAGUE.
