THE HANDMAID’S TALE Becomes Bravo’s Most-Watched Broadcast, Ever

TORONTO (May 11, 2017)
– Bravo’s must-see premiere of dystopian drama series THE HANDMAID’S TALE is now officially breaking records. Final Numeris data confirms that 793,400 viewers watched the April 30 premiere episode, making it the most-watched broadcast in Bravo history, and most-watched series premiere on a Canadian Entertainment Specialty channel this broadcast year. The episodes can be seen now on Bravo GO.

The acclaimed series, which is now the #2 Canadian Entertainment Specialty series this broadcast year, is amassing a loyal fan base, with audience growth in its second week of broadcast. Preliminary live plus same-day audience data for Episode 3 of THE HANDMAID’S TALE illustrates an audience increase of 21% over Episodes 1 and 2. The series is now averaging 722,600 viewers per episode.

In the upcoming, all-new Episode 4, “Nolite Te Bastardes Carborundorum,” (Sunday, May 14 at 9 p.m. ET/10 p.m. PT), punished by Serena Joy, Offred begins to unravel and reflects on her time with Moira at the Red Center. A complication during the ceremony threatens Offred’s survival with the Commander and Serena Joy.

Bravo viewers can catch-up on THE HANDMAID’S TALE on Bravo.ca, Bravo GO, and via On Demand partners.

As announced last week, the one-hour drama has been renewed for a second season to premiere on Bravo in 2018.

A television adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s iconic dystopian novel, the series stars Elisabeth Moss as Offred, Joseph Fiennes (AMERICAN HORROR STORY: ASYLUM, Shakespeare In Love) as Commander Waterford, Samira Wiley (ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK) as Moira, Max Minghella (THE MINDY PROJECT) as Nick,  Yvonne Strahovski (CHUCK, DEXTER) as the Commander’s wife Serena Joy, O.T. Fagbenle (THE FIVE) as Luke, Alexis Bledel (GILMORE GIRLS) as Ofglen, Madeline Brewer (ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK) as Janine, and Ann Dowd (Compliance, THE LEFTOVERS) as Aunt Lydia. Margaret Atwood, the author of the classic 1985 novel The Handmaid’s Tale from which the series has been adapted, is a consulting producer.

Filmed in Toronto, the 10-part series was created for television by Bruce Miller (THE 100) who serves as the series’ showrunner.  Executive Producers are Miller, Warren Littlefield (FARGO), Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears and Illene Chaiken. THE HANDMAID’S TALE is produced by MGM Television and internationally distributed by MGM.
