It follows a cross-section of dreamers and schemers who all have one common desire — to be a Smash. Produced by Steven Spielberg and featuring original songs and stunning musical numbers, the series centres on a desire to create a Broadway musical based on the life of Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe. Before the show becomes a sensation – successful songwriting duo Tom and Julia must first tackle their personal troubles. A rivalry soon develops between the two young ladies fighting for the lead role. A tenacious producer jumps on board with a brilliant director whose talent is matched by his cunning and egocentric amorality. The musical drama features Katharine McPhee, Angelica Houston, Uma Thurman, Debra Messing and many guest-stars from the world of film, music and stage.
