President, Media Sales, Marketing, and TSN
As President, Media Sales, Marketing, and TSN, Johnston oversees the leadership and strategic direction of Bell Media’s national advertising sales across all platforms; Bell Media’s award-winning in-house creative agency; and overall responsibility for TSN, Canada’s Sports Leader and one of North America’s most influential sports media networks.
Since being appointed President of TSN in 2010, Johnston has secured exclusive long-term multi-media deals with some of the most high-profile properties in sports including the CFL, NFL, the Canadian Curling Association, and Hockey Canada along with the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships.
Under Johnston’s leadership, TSN expanded to five national feeds, attracting record audiences for a slate of major properties, among them the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, Grand Slam tennis, and the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015. Johnston also led TSN’s expansion into radio with successful launches of TSN Radio in seven key Canadian markets: Toronto, Montréal, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Edmonton, and Hamilton. Johnston also headed TSN’s integration of digital, social, and broadcast content with the launch of industry-leading mobile apps.
Johnston represents Bell Media’s content interests associated with Bell’s ownership stake in Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment, sits on the Board of Directors of the Hockey Hall of Fame and the Toronto Argonauts, and serves as Vice-Chair of the Special Olympics Board of Directors.
An Ottawa native, Johnston holds an honours business degree from Queen’s University.
