That’s the Spirit

In the new series SNOOKI: THE PARANORMAL ROOKIE, which premieres tonight with two episodes on Crave, reality-TV icon Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi regularly uses the term « ghosties » rather than « ghosts. » Why? « I want to treat them like I would people, » Snooki told TV critic Bill Harris in an interview for The Lede. « Instead of trying to invade their space, and be annoying, I want to be bubbly, and be like, ‘hi, ghosties! I’m here. I want to chat.’ » Conversational techniques aside, SNOOKI: THE PARANORMAL ROOKIE also has a very spooky feel, as Snooki (JERSEY SHORE) embarks upon creepy investigations with a small team of experts in allegedly haunted locations across Ontario. « When I scream, I’m genuinely scared, » Snooki admitted. « I went in really nervous, on top of being worried that I was going to get touched by a ghost, because I feel like I always do. So I guess I felt more comfortable as it went on, but I mean, I’m still scared. »

Road Trip

Sometimes a press conference unexpectedly gets a little « heated. » Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie took a break from filming Season 2 of Crave’s HEATED RIVALRY this week to make a surprise appearance at the Global Summit for Women’s Mental Health in New York City, in support of the Irina Foundation, a newly launched charity named after the organization from Rachel Reid’s books. Williams, who plays Shane Hollander, and Storrie, who plays Ilya Rozanov, were joined by Reid and showrunner Jacob Tierney, as well as Ksenia Daniela Kharlamova, who plays Svetlana, and Christina Chang, who plays Yuna Hollander. Williams and Storrie fielded multiple questions about their characters, and their intimacy on the show. “We’re both unabashed, shameless people,” said Williams, which caused Tierney to interject, « in a good way! » Season 1 of HEATED RIVALRY, which became a worldwide sensation, is on Crave now.

Tug of WAR

Morgan Henderson, played by Dominic West, is a high-profile tech billionaire with a do-good attitude but also a roving eye. Carla Duval, played by Sienna Miller, is a famous actress who is used to being the centre of attention, and not really caring too much about the feelings of others. Morgan and Carla are married … for now. Thus begins the dire set of circumstances in HBO’s new legal and divorce drama WAR, which premiered last night and is available on Crave, with new episodes continuing to drop on Thursdays. “I think on-set we did fall quite comfortably into our camps, and we really shot most of this series with our respective law firms, Dom and I particularly,” Miller said, in a story by TV critic Bill Harris for The Lede. “It definitely felt like ‘us versus them.’” West added, “I suppose the whole process of the case is that they’re walking on this knife edge between love and war, and the lawyers are trying to push them into war.”

‘Heroes of The Highway’

Versatile veteran actor John Goodman, who always pops up in the most fascinating places, has joined the cast for Season 3 of HBO’s THE LAST OF US. The announcement that Goodman, Ian Alexander, and Laura Bailey have been added was made on Sept. 26, which is key in THE LAST OF US lore: it’s the date of the cordyceps outbreak that set the story in motion. Goodman (THE RIGHTEOUS GEMSTONES, THE CONNERS, both on Crave) and Alexander will play Joey and Paco, a “friendly duo” who call themselves the “Heroes of the Highway, » while Bailey’s character is Elizabeth, a leader in a religious sect called the Seraphites. The new trio joins returnees Bella Ramsey, Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Gabriel Luna, Jeffrey Wright, Ariella Barer, Tati Gabrielle, and Spencer Lord, as well as previously announced newcomers Jason Ritter, Patrick Wilson, Clea DuVall, and Jorge Lendeborg, Jr. Season 3 of THE LAST OF US is coming to Crave in 2027.

Mondo Hondo

« A solid sequel to a well-liked procedural, S.W.A.T. EXILES uses many of the same tricks that made the original so popular. Yet, with a brand new team and a handful of compelling storylines, it proves it can stand on its own. » Those words come from a positive review in Variety for S.W.A.T. EXILES, which premieres tonight on CTV and Crave, and has already been greenlit for a second season. Set two years after the original show ended, the new series follows the return of Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, Jr., played by the unforgettable Shemar Moore. Divorced, alone, and ousted from the LAPD, Hondo is now working as a reluctant bodyguard, but his luck changes – supposedly – when he’s given the chance to command a new unit. The review goes on to say, « S.W.A.T. EXILES isn’t as fixed or formulaic as other action-dramas … it doesn’t reinvent the wheel for its genre, but Moore is commanding and earnest as he steps back into Hondo’s shoes. »
