Astral Announces Toronto and Western Canada Winners of the 2018 CARTE BLANCHE FOR CREATIVES Competition

MONTREAL (May 17, 2018) – Astral, a division of Bell Media, announced the Toronto and Western Canada winners of its CARTE BLANCHE FOR CREATIVES competition earlier this week. Launched in March, the ninth edition of CARTE BLANCHE competition drew a record-breaking 325 submissions (a nearly 20% increase year-over-year) across all three markets (Toronto, Western Canada, and Québec). Entrants had to create an original ad in the format of a digital superboard for one of their agency clients. There’s no brief, so creative teams have “carte blanche” to come up with their concept.

Winners for the Québec market will be announced on May 25 at C2 Montréal.

This year, a national jury composed of six prominent creative directors from the advertising industry had the difficult task to shortlist the Top 25 entries and then deliberate to determine the winners for each market.

“We endeavour to foster a special relationship with the creative industry and Carte Blanche is the perfect vehicle. This creative collaboration allows us to evolve the Carte Blanche competition year over year,  adapting to the realities of the industry to ensure that agencies big ideas can take form,” said Michael Alexandor, Vice-President, Marketing and Innovation, Bell Media. “We are thrilled by this record-breaking ninth edition of the Carte Blanche competition and the establishment of a national jury. The winning teams will fly off to the south of France for The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity while their clients will receive a $50,000 campaign on the Astral digital network. The creative teams that placed second and third respectively received a MacBook Retina and an iPad Pro.

TRUCKER’S CHOICE AWARD

This year’s edition of Carte Blanche introduced the Trucker’s Choice Award, where a jury of three, real-life truck drivers have chosen their favourite entry from all the concepts received in each market. Who better to award this special prize than people who spend most of their days passing by all types of billboards?
