TORONTO (May 23, 2014) – HBO Canada presents the new ten-episode original drama series THE KNICK premiering Friday, Aug. 8 at 11 p.m. ET/MT. The Cinemax series is directed by Academy Award® and Emmy Award® winner Steven Soderbergh (HBO’S BEHIND THE CANDELABRA) and stars Academy Award and Emmy Award nominee Clive Owen (HBO’s HEMINGWAY & GELLHORN). Set in downtown New York in 1900, THE KNICK centers on Knickerbocker Hospital and the groundbreaking surgeons, nurses, and staff, who push the bounds of medicine in a time of astonishingly high mortality rates and zero antibiotics. HBO Canada is a multiplex channel of Bell Media’s The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) and Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central (Western Canada).

The writing team of Jack Amiel and Michael Begler (Raising Helen, Big Miracle) serve as executive producers of THE KNICK, along with Soderbergh, Owen, Michael Sugar (The Fifth Estate), and Gregory Jacobs (HBO’S BEHIND THE CANDELABRA). Michael Polaire (HBO’S BEHIND THE CANDELABRA) produces.
