TORONTO (June 26, 2014) – This July, The Comedy Network is heading to the land of blondes, affordable furniture, and Melodifestivalen with the exclusive Canadian premiere of the all-new comedy series WELCOME TO SWEDEN, Thursday, July 10 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. From creator and executive producer Greg Poehler, as well as Executive Producers Amy Poehler, Entertainment One Television’s (eOne) Carrie Stein and TV4’s Fredrik Arefalk, WELCOME TO SWEDEN follows Bruce Evans (Greg Poehler) and Emma Wiik (Josephine Bornebusch, The Dog Trick), a seemingly perfect couple who make the life-changing decision to move back to Emma’s native Stockholm. Shot predominately on location in Stockholm, the 10- episode, half-hour comedy guest stars Amy Poehler, Aubrey Plaza (PARKS AND RECREATION), Will Ferrell, and Gene Simmons.

In the series premiere (Thursday, July 10 at 9 p.m. ET/PT), Bruce Evans quits his successful job as a celebrity money manager and moves to Sweden for love. His first day in Sweden is tougher than expected, as he’s forced to deal with new customs, new surroundings, and his girlfriend Emma’s strange, and very Swedish, family.

WELCOME TO SWEDEN marks Poehler’s acting debut as Bruce Evans, a New York accountant who moves to Stockholm with his Swedish girlfriend Emma (Bornebusch). Along with embracing Emma’s love, Bruce has to embrace her family including Gustav (Christopher Wagelin, Easy Money), Emma’s younger brother, a 28-year-old slacker who can do no wrong in his mother’s eyes; Emma’s mother Viveka (Lena Olin, Chocolat), a therapist who loves her family dearly and harbours a dislike for Bruce from day one; and Emma’s father Birger (Claes Månsson, Heartbreak Hotel), a quiet and kind retired sea captain. Since his English isn’t very sharp, it only adds to communication barriers.

Based on Greg Poehler’s life story, WELCOME TO SWEDEN is a co-production between eOne Television, Sweden’s TV4, FLX, and Syskon and airs in Canada exclusively on Comedy.
