TORONTO (June 21, 2017) – Betrayal, secrets, political maneuvers, and war …welcome to Versailles. Following a first season that immersed viewers in the scandalous, sexy, and sensational world of King Louis XIV, VERSAILLES returns for Season 2 with 10 new episodes, beginning Monday, July 10 at 10 p.m. ET, exclusively on The Movie Network. Set in 17th Century France, and featuring both historical and fictional storylines and characters, the series follows the infamous political strategist, manipulator, and Machiavellian king as he “invents” Versailles in order to rule over the nobility and impose his absolute power.

In Season 2, it’s 1671 and Louis (George Blagden, VIKINGS) has completed the first phase of his construction project. Surrounded by corruption, greed, and lewd behaviour, he watches his dream crumble and loses his sense of purpose as the nobility start to turn against him. Blinded by his love for his favourite courtesan, Madame de Montespan (Anna Brewster, Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Louis remains deaf to the Church’s injunctions and the greatest enemy that stands before him.

VERSAILLES also stars Canadian actors Tygh Runyan (SGU: STARGATE UNIVERSE) as Fabien, and Evan Williams (AWKWARD) as Chevalier (2017 Canadian Screen Awards nominee for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Program or Series). Canada’s Mark Rendall (TRANSPORTER: THE SERIES) and Suzanne Clément (Mommy) join the cast for Season 2 as Thomas and Madame Agathe.

The new season also features three episodes – #8, #9, and #10 – directed by Canada’s Louis Choquette (19-2), while the series’ soundtracks were composed in Montréal by Eduardo Noya Schreus and Michel Corriveau. Special effects are made in Montréal at MELS Studios, while opening credits were created by Mémoire Liquide and Fly Studio in Montréal.

VERSAILLES is a Canal+ original production, co-produced by Capa Drama, Zodiak Fiction, and Canada’s Incendo. Incendo’s Jean Bureau is executive producer and Ian Whitehead is producer.
