Showtime’s Sexy and Emotionally Gripping Drama THE AFFAIR Premieres on Movie Central and The Movie Network, October 12

“Our money for best new program is on Showtime’s drama THE AFFAIR… it’s the show’s structure that makes it stand out. An exciting premise with very capable actors makes THE AFFAIR worth having, even on a busy night.” – Liz Shannon Miller and Ben Travers, Indiewire.com

TORONTO (August 27, 2014) – Movie Central (Western Canada) and The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) present Showtime’s new, provocative, and suspenseful one-hour drama, THE AFFAIR. Following the emotionally charged stories of a married man and woman who embark on an extramarital affair, the series features a unique narrative technique that tells the story from both sides of the relationship. THE AFFAIR premieres Sunday, Oct. 12 at 10 p.m. ET/MT on Movie Central and The Movie Network, day-and-date with Showtime in the U.S., and stars Golden Globe® nominees Dominic West (HBO’s THE WIRE) and Ruth Wilson (LUTHER), Emmy® nominee Maura Tierney (ER), and Canadian SAG Award® nominee Joshua Jackson (FRINGE).

THE AFFAIR explores the emotional and psychological effects of an extramarital affair, and is told separately from both perspectives, using distinct memory biases to both misdirect and intrigue. Ruth Wilson stars as Alison, a young woman waiting tables at a Hamptons diner, trying to piece her life back together in the wake of a tragedy. Her husband Cole (Joshua Jackson), struggles to keep it all together, both with his wife and the financially strained ranch that has been in his family for generations. Their emotionally charged marriage becomes even more complicated when Alison begins an affair with Noah (Dominic West), a New York City public school teacher and aspiring novelist who is spending the summer at his in-laws’ estate. Maura Tierney stars as Helen, Noah’s wife and the mother of his children.

THE AFFAIR is written by award-winning playwright and writer/producer Sarah Treem (IN TREATMENT, HOUSE OF CARDS), who wrote the original script from a story created with Hagai Levi (IN TREATMENT). Treem and Levi also serve as executive producers, alongside executive producer and director Jeffrey Reiner (FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS) and executive producer Eric Overmyer (THE WIRE, TREME).

In Western Canada, episodes will be available on Movie Central HD, on the go with Shaw Go Movie Central appBell TV appTelus Optik on the go, and Movie Central On Demand.
