Kelsey McEwen, Meteorologist (@KelseyMcEwen)

Kelsey McEwen, Meteorologist (@KelseyMcEwen)

Kelsey McEwen is the Meteorologist on YOUR MORNING. Her interest in the weather began as a young girl in Alberta, where she would watch thunderstorms with her parents on the front step of their Calgary home.

That overriding interest grew into a career when McEwen got her start in broadcast journalism as a reporter and weather specialist in Regina working for Global News. She was then hired as The Weather Network’s Regional Correspondent in Alberta where she caught the attention of CTV Calgary and joined the CTV MORNING LIVE and CTV NEWS AT NOON teams in Calgary as a Weather Anchor. In addition to interviews with astronaut Col. Chris Hadfield and Harry Potter actors James and Oliver Phelps, McEwen reported live on location from numerous events around Calgary.

But it is McEwen’s passion for the sky and natural forces that gets her out of the studio, and connecting with members of the community to tell their weather story. Throughout her career, McEwen has covered breaking weather-related news including avalanche control in British Columbia’s Kootenay Pass, the 2011 and 2013 floods in Saskatchewan, the record breaking #skstorm tornado season in 2012, and the June 2013 floods in her home province of Alberta.

Growing up in Alberta, McEwen credits her love of community theatre as the key to helping her fit in at school and credits being a life-long student for forging her commitment to connecting with kids in the classroom. McEwen was proud to be part of Calgary’s SkyWatch ‘Weather in the Classroom’ program where she had the opportunity to share her weather expertise with over 3000 Grade 5 students in the area. She champions encouraging youth to pursue a career they find challenging, and most importantly, fun!

McEwen also served as a volunteer for various events in the Calgary community including CARE Canada, the Kids Help Phone, the Alzheimer Society of Calgary, and Camp fYrefly.

A graduate of SAIT Polytechnic with a diploma in Broadcasting, McEwen recently completed the Operational Meteorology program at Mississippi State University, which qualifies her to not only report on the weather, but to analyze and predict weather patterns.

McEwen loves to sing, play piano, and cook. Since moving to Toronto to join the YOUR MORNING team, she is looking forward to experiencing an eastern Canada autumn, and exploring Central Canada campgrounds with her husband, their son, Jack, and their mischievous lab, Thunder.
