It has been a fun, feisty, and fashionable year on PROJECT RUNWAY CANADA, which drops its dramatic season finale on Friday, Jan. 16, only on Crave (where all episodes are available for catch-up).

Here’s how Canadian supermodel Coco Rocha, who served as both the host and one of the judges, analyzed the entire enthralling experience:

Q: Did you get two cheques for hosting and judging?

COCO ROCHA: “We wish! I think it was all muddled into one.”

Q: Sounds like time for a renegotiation.

COCO ROCHA: “There you go. You can be my lawyer.”

&nbsp;

Q: Which comes more naturally to you, judging or hosting?

COCO ROCHA: “I think host and judge were definitely very combined, but also just being an executive producer was the area where I was really wanting to put my hat in the ring. The reason why it was so important to me was because PROJECT RUNWAY CANADA was coming in with producers who all came from the world of TV, whereas I was very much wanting to make sure that the fashion component was there. I wanted to be the playful judge, and the playful host, but also making sure that we were hitting all those key targets of, like, what was true fashion? What are the stories we need to really be discussing? I think that balance was, well, I wouldn’t say the hard one, but just the one I was very much aware of.”

Q: How would you rate the talent level of the designers on PROJECT RUNWAY CANADA this season?

COCO ROCHA: “I think we had a majority of highly skilled designers. There were some challenges where I could not believe they could produce such beautiful things, even when I wasn’t expecting it. They showed me that anything's possible, as long as you're a creative person. So I have to say there were moments I was absolutely shocked in the greatest sense, but also sometimes shocked in the worst sense (laughs).”

Q: I guess those are the extremes that you’re looking for on a TV show such as this.

COCO ROCHA: “I was hoping for that, yeah.”

Q: Do you have any specific takeaways?

COCO ROCHA: “I think the designers were very good when it came to challenges where we very much told them, ‘this is all you're allowed to use.’ But when they could use any material, it was interesting how they would panic under that kind of pressure. Not everyone, but some would. When you gave them, like, ‘here's the challenge, here's your material, here's the amount of hours, this is all you're allowed to do,’ that’s when they almost had the attitude of, ‘I'm going to prove to them I can do it.’ That’s usually when they were really good. So it was funny, if the challenge was more relaxed, and they had more time, what they came up with seemed to be less interesting to me. So I don't know, under pressure, they did well.”

Q: Maybe that’s just human nature.

COCO ROCHA: “I wonder, because it was almost always the case, and we noticed it as judges. When they were given very specific parameters, they killed it, like, murdered it. But if it was just a theme, like, one of the ones we had was ‘futuristic’ – I don't know if that's exactly what we called it – but a futuristic theme, what will it look like? That was too big for them. And it was a challenge where they had to work together, too, and you know, working together as designers is already a faux pas (laughs). They're not usually good at that. But in general they had a hard time with that one because it was just too broad.”

Q: What do you know about your fellow judges – fashion media icon Jeanne Beker, and award-winning designer Spencer Badu – that you didn’t know at the beginning?

COCO ROCHA: “So Spencer and I didn't really know each other at all until we met at the Bell Media Upfront (last June). Back then he was so quiet, and calm, and poised. And now he's like that little brother who you just nag in the best of ways. We made fun of each other 24/7, to the point where I'm sure Jeanne was like, ‘do they love or hate each other?’ She could not figure it out. But I mean, we would go out and have drinks and hang out, so we're good. But it is funny how you get so comfortable around the people you work with, to the point where you're just bashing them all the time! Not Jeanne, though, we would never … she's a classy lady! We can't do that to her. But just to give two cents about Jeanne, it was amazing to see when she would speak to the designers about their craftsmanship, or give them praise, how many tears would be on that runway. Hearing Jeanne Beker tell them, ‘I'm proud of you, you did it,’ they would just break down. It's a testament to just what she has accomplished, and will continue to accomplish, in our industry. To see how much admiration and respect this new generation has for Jeanne was so touching. And also to see her well up … like, in just about every episode, at least one of us was crying. Well, mostly not Spencer, let's be real.”

Is John Wells the most employee-friendly boss in history?

After all, there aren’t many bosses in the world who would issue this supposedly pressure-reducing declaration to his workforce: “Stop being so good at your jobs.”

But that’s exactly what happened on the set of THE PITT, the acclaimed medical drama starring Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch that is returning for its second season on Thursday, Jan. 8, only on Crave.

Wells is a co-executive producer of THE PITT, which is set in a Pittsburgh hospital emergency department, with each season of the show taking place during a single 15-hour shift. As both Wyle – who also is a co-EP – and Wells recalled, a specific concern emerged as the series progressed.

“We’re almost too smooth – in fact, that was John’s big note to us,” Wyle revealed during a media conference. “Things are starting to look too polished, too choreographed. You guys look too efficient, and the composition is too perfect. You know, don’t be so good at your jobs.”

Wells agreed and added, “our actors didn’t know what they were doing at the beginning, literally physically. Then doing it for seven months (as the first season of THE PITT was being filmed), you get better at it, but the character is only one or two hours farther along in their training, not seven months farther along in their training. We had to continue to keep the discipline of, ‘what do you actually know in the amount of time you’ve spent as a physician in this setting?’ There’s nothing easy about what Noah’s character does, but his character has been there for a long time. The others started to get too good.”

And that went for the behind-the-scenes people as well.

“Our camera crew also started to get too good,” Wells said. “Part of the rawness is bumping into things, and not knowing exactly where you are, and trying to keep up, because we’re really trying with the camera to say, ‘you are someone who’s trailing behind these physicians, and so you’re going to be in the way, and it’s not going to be a perfect view, and you’re not going to see everything all the time.’ And so, we had to remind ourselves to not get too good at it.”

Of course, in a wider sense, THE PITT had no such concerns, as the first season won multiple awards, and topped many 2025 “best of TV” lists. Season 2 picks up 10 months after the compelling events of the first season, and follows another grueling 15-hour emergency shift, this time on the busy July 4 holiday weekend in the U.S.

After the first season of THE PITT was so celebrated, Wyle admitted that the cast and crew were fully cognizant of a possible sophomore slump, and were determined to combat it.

“When you have something that’s as impactful and as successful as our first season was, it’s inevitable that you’re going to be combating expectation,” Wyle said. “But I will say that John (Wells) alleviated us from a lot of that pressure early on, by saying, ‘you don’t have to do it bigger, better, faster, stronger, you just have to do it again, and remember what you did the first time, and stay true to the characters, and be honest, and go from there.’”

That still sounds like a lot of stuff.

“Once we realized that certain things were working, and that was validated by the viewers, it gave us a little confidence to come back and put a little bit more emphasis on certain things and less on others,” Wyle said. “We learned that it’s a really delicate balance between the cases and the characters, and that a lot of people respond to the medicine, for sure, but a lot of people respond more to the internal journey of our characters. So, coming back, it was less about coming up with sexy cases, and more about being really faithful to the interior architecture of the characters, and where they were, and how these cases that they’re working on reflect on them even to a greater degree, I’d say.”

The status of healthcare in both the United States and Canada is a hot topic, and THE PITT has pointed yet another bright spotlight on those concerns. But Wells stressed that when any show reaches for contemporary relevance in a way that’s too obvious, it can be a mistake.

“It’s important not to follow the headlines, which is kind of top-down, but rather to actually hear what the concerns are of the people who do this job,” Wells explained. “Now, the people who do it also read those headlines, and sometimes those are also their concerns. But sadly, there are a lot of stories to talk about in American healthcare.”

In a previous era, Wyle and Wells worked together on ER, which was one of the most successful medical series in the history of television, and is also available on Crave.

“One of the first things we did (when working on THE PITT) was we had a huge dry erase board, and we just wrote all the things that we never did on ER that could be talked about today,” Wyle said. “And we were amazed at how fast we filled up that board, whether it was talking about fentanyl, or talking about trans rights, or talking about gun violence, or talking about nursing shortages, or a boarding crisis. It went on and on and on, and we thought, ‘oh my goodness, there’s a lot here that we could get into that feels extremely relevant.’”

The relevance continues on Thursday. But for viewing purposes, let’s hope nobody gets too good at their jobs.

WINDSOR (January 5, 2026) – As announced live this morning on 89X and 93.9 Virgin Radio, Hannah Witherbee and Jonny Parks are waking up Windsor with THE MORNING X WITH HANNAH &amp; JONNY beginning Tuesday, Jan. 6. The program is available weekdays on 89X from 6 – 10 a.m. ET, and streaming live on iHeart.com and the iHeartRadio Canada app.  

Making the move from across the hall at 93.9 Virgin Radio, Jonny Parks begins with 89X on Tuesday, Jan. 6, with Hannah Witherbee joining the show following her maternity leave in September 2026. 

Taking over at 93.9 Virgin Radio are Kim Scott and Lexie Farrer, with their new morning show beginning Monday, Jan. 19.

SASKATOON (December 31, 2025) – CTV News Saskatoon announced tonight during CTV NEWS AT SIX that Mildred Kerr is the recipient of the 2025 Saskatoon Citizen of the Year Award. 

“Mildred Kerr has been a lifelong advocate for social justice and supporting others in Saskatoon,” said J.C. Garden, Manager of Operations, Local TV &amp; Radio and Director of News &amp; Public Affairs Saskatchewan, Bell Media. “From her early career at the Saskatoon Community Clinic to her volunteer work on the board of the Saskatoon Open Door Society, Mildred has been a tireless advocate for all people to be treated equally.” 

Born in Kuroki, Saskatchewan, Kerr and her late husband Don lived in Saskatoon, raising their three biological sons and fostering two sons. She is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan and earned a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Regina. In the early ‘80s, Kerr was instrumental in the founding of Equal Justice for All. She was also a founding member of the Saskatoon Food Bank, and has served on a variety of different boards including the Saskatoon Open Door Society and Saskatoon Interval House. 

Kerr has been honoured with numerous awards and recognitions, including the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal and Saskatchewan Centennial Medal.  

The Saskatoon Citizen of the Year Award presented by CTV is an annual tradition now in its 59th year. Each November, CTV Saskatoon accepts nominations from viewers for the Saskatoon Citizen of the Year Award and presents the award at the end of December to an individual who exemplifies excellence in community service.
