1.7 Million Canadians Watch World Juniors New Year’s Eve Game on TSN

TORONTO (January 2, 2014) – Canadians continue to rally around Team Canada and the 2014 IIHF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP on TSN. Overnight data from BBM Canada confirms that an average audience of 1.7 million Canadians watched Team Canada’s New Year’s Eve 3-2 victory over the United States, making it the most-watched program on Canadian television on New Year’s Eve. 

The audience peaked late in the third period with more than 2.8 million viewers as Team Canada held on to win the game. 

Through Canada’s four preliminary round games, TSN has attracted an average audience of 1.4 million viewers – a record audience for a non-North American World Juniors.

  • Canada-United Sates – 1.74 million viewers
  • Canada-Czech Republic – 1.75 million viewers
  • Canada-Slovakia – 1.2 million viewers
  • Canada-Germany – 755,000 viewers 

Overall, close to 10 million unique viewers have tuned into TSN and TSN2 for the networks’ coverage of the World Juniors. 

TSN’s coverage of the World Juniors continues this weekend with both semifinals, and the Bronze and Gold medal games. All games are available live on TSN and TSN Radio.

  • Semifinal #1:  Russia–Sweden  at 9 a.m. ET          
  • Semifinal #2:  Canada–Finland  at 12:30 p.m. ET

  • Bronze Medal Game at 9 a.m. ET      
  • Gold Medal Game at 1 p.m. ET
