Applications now open for second year of the Canadian Academy’s Executive Residency Program

Toronto, March 14, 2023 – The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television (the Canadian Academy) announced today the return of the Executive Residency Program, an initiative introduced last February that aims to grant executive-level access for industry professionals who are Black, Indigenous, or persons of colour, to break down the barriers that currently exist for the next generation of creative executives and business leaders. Applications for the sophomore cohort are open now and will be accepted until Monday, April 17, 2023; they can be submitted here. The second iteration of the Executive Residency Program will follow the same format as the successful first year, with the eight-month national program matching high-level executives (such as Vice Presidents, Executive Producers, Development/Production Executives, etc.) with emerging leaders, providing insight into how creative and business decisions are made on an executive level. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from today’s industry leaders on how to develop their creative, business, and leadership skills and to make meaningful connections in the industry. The Executive Residency Program will select six to eight participants for placement, pairing each individual with an Advocate for the duration of the program. These shadowing and observational placements consist of regular meetings with the Advocate that focus on project development, organizational governance, and peer-to-peer mentorship. Participants will also take part in online group modules to explore a variety of different areas within the creative industry, with a focus on  community-building within the group, as well as with the Advocates and Community Partner. “Equal access to opportunities is a crucial aspect of continuing to see important development and change in our industry,” said Tammy Frick, CEO of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television. “It is such a privilege to be able to offer these talented, mid-career professionals exactly that with the Executive Residency program. These individuals are the future of our industry, and we are looking forward to seeing how this program enhances their careers and how they’ll impact our Canadian arts community.” The Executive Residency Program is presented by our Supporting Partner Telefilm Canada; Collaborative Partners Bell Media, Pinewood Toronto Studios, Blue Ant Media, and Boat Rocker; and Community Partner BIPOC TV & Film. Following the closure of applications on Monday, April 17, 2023, the Canadian Academy along with the Community Partner(s) and Advocates will begin the selection process to determine the participants, led by Angela Moritsugu, Director of Talent Development at the Canadian Academy. Between six to eight participants will be selected to join the sophomore cohort of the Executive Residency Program, which will be announced in June 2023.
