Highlights This Week
- With the nominations for the 9th annual Canadian Screen Awards announced yesterday, Crave celebrates its nominated programming with the Canadian Screen Award Nominated Collection, now streaming. Each year, the awards ceremony honours achievements in Canadian film, television, and digital media production, with winners being voted on by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television. Featuring current CSA nominees, the collection includes Crave Originals like CANADA’S DRAG RACE, LETTERKENNY, NEW EDEN, AISHA BROWN: THE FIRST BLACK WOMAN EVER, and Crave supported feature films such as Blood Quantum, The Nest, and Random Acts of Violence.
- The 2020 Canadian biopic STARDUST drops Friday, April 2. In 1971, a 24-year-old fledgling David Bowie (Johnny Flynn) is sent to America to promote his newest record, The Man Who Sold the World. Leaving behind his pregnant wife Angie (Jena Malone), Bowie and his band embark on a makeshift coast-to-coast promotional tour with struggling Mercury Records publicist Rob Oberman (Marc Maron). The film centres on David Bowie’s first US tour and his creation of the Ziggy Stardust persona that followed this visit, while also showing Bowie’s origins.
- HBO’s Q: INTO THE STORM wraps up with its final two episodes dropping back-to-back Sunday, April 4 beginning at 9 p.m. ET. Since its premiere two weeks ago, the docuseries has been making headlines for its unprecedented investigation into the QAnon conspiracy and the identity of the elusive ‘Q.’ The series, which The Globe and Mail calls “one of the most strange, saddening, and ominous stories of our time,” has even been making waves within the QAnon community it profiles. Diving deep into the darkest corners of the internet, the final two episodes are the culmination of a three-year global investigation into QAnon by filmmaker Cullen Hoback.
- HBO Documentaries’ four-part series EXTERMINATE ALL THE BRUTES premieres Wednesday, April 7, with two back-to-back episodes beginning at 9 p.m. ET. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Raoul Peck (I Am Not Your Negro, SOMETIMES IN APRIL), the docuseries journey through time into the darkest hours of humanity. Through his personal voyage, Peck deconstructs the making and masking of history, digging deep into the exploitative and genocidal aspects of European colonialism, from America to Africa and its impact on society today, challenging the audience to rethink the very notion of how history is being written. The final two-episdoes of EXTERMINATE ALL THE BRUTES will premiere back-to-back Thursday, April 8 beginning at 9 p.m. ET.
