Highlights This Week

• The all-new HBO Max Original ELLEN’S NEXT GREAT DESIGNER premieres with two episodes dropping Thursday, April 22. The furniture design competition series sees design aficionado Ellen DeGeneres give uniquely talented, up-and-coming furniture designers the chance to push their creativity to the limit. The designers compete in innovative furniture-making challenges from studios in their hometowns, with DeGeneres appearing in each episode to surprise and delight the contestants and the judges. Acclaimed actor Scott Foley brings his passion for furniture design to his role as host and judge. Joining Foley as judges are renowned interior designer Brigette Romanek and award-winning, one-of-a-kind contemporary artist and designer Fernando Mastrangelo. ELLEN’S NEXT GREAT DESIGNER follows a weekly release schedule, with new episodes dropping on Thursdays.

 

• HBO’s Emmy^®-nominated A BLACK LADY SKETCH SHOW returns for Season 2 on Friday, April 23 at 11 p.m. ET. The narrative sketch comedy series features a core cast of Black women living relatable, hilarious experiences in a magical reality that subverts traditional expectations. Joining the cast this season are featured players Laci Mosley and Skye Townsend, and returning this season are core cast members Robin Thede, Gabrielle Dennis, and Ashley Nicole Black. The new season features several celebrity guest stars, including Issa Rae, Gabrielle Union, Jesse Williams, Miguel, and many more. A BLACK LADY SKETCH SHOW follows a weekly release schedule, with new episodes dropping Fridays at 11 p.m. ET on Crave, following new episodes of REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER.

 

• As film fans around Canada gather virtually to celebrate the best in documentary film at the 2021 Hot Docs Festival (happening April 29-May 9), Crave highlights past festival selections with its Hot Docs Collection. Launching on Thursday, April 22, the collection features notable documentary titles such as: Canadian documentary KILLING PATIENT ZERO, HBO’s I LOVE YOU NOW DIE and MOONLIGHT SONATA: DEAFNESS IN THREE MOVEMENTS, SHOWTIME’s THE FOURTH ESTATE, O.J.: MADE IN AMERICA, and more. As was recently announced, Crave Original documentaries A.RTIFICIAL I.MMORTALITY and FANNY: THE RIGHT TO ROCK, and HBO documentaries IN THE SAME BREATH and STREET GANG: HOW WE GOT TO SESAME STREET will screen at this year’s Festival prior to their debut on Crave later this year.

 

• Also launching on Thursday, April 22, in conjunction with Earth Day, is Crave’s Earth Day Collection, featuring thought provoking environmental documentaries and films including: I Am Greta, Crave Originals Sharkwater Extinction and Anthropocene: The Human Epoch, Ice on Fire, Sea of Life, and more.

 

• Rolling out in Canada on the same day as it launches in the U.S., Season 4 of THE HANDMAID’S TALE premieres on Wednesday, April 28 at 9 p.m. ET with two episodes on Crave (streaming) and CTV Drama Channel (linear television) Crave. In the 10-episode fourth season, June (Elisabeth Moss) strikes back against Gilead as a fierce rebel leader, but the risks she takes bring unexpected and dangerous new challenges. Her quest for justice and revenge threatens to consume her and destroy her most cherished relationships. THE HANDMAID’S TALE follows a weekly release schedule, with new episodes dropping Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET. Two additional episodes drop Wednesday, May 5 at 9 p.m. ET, followed by one episode a week thereafter.
