AUGUST 20 – GODZILLA VS. KONG *Movie Premiere*
- Streaming Friday, August 20 and available in 4K on AppleTV, AndroidTV, FireTV, and Chromecast platforms, is the hit film GODZILLA VS. KONG, which recently made history by becoming only the second movie of the COVID-19 era to earn more than $100 million in the U.S. box office, and more than $400 worldwide. Legends collide as Godzilla and Kong, the two most powerful forces of nature, clash in a spectacular battle for the ages. As Monarch embarks on a perilous mission into fantastic uncharted terrain, unearthing clues to the Titans’ origins, a human conspiracy threatens to wipe the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the earth forever. In addition, Crave adds three classic GODZILLA movies including GODZILLA VS. MECHAGODZILLA, GOJIRA (AKA GODZILLA (1954), and MOTHRA VS. GODZILLA.
AUGUST 22 – SHOWTIME’s WORK IN PROGRESS *Season 2 Premiere*
- From Chicago improv mainstays Abby McEnany and Tim Mason, SHOWTIME’s dark comedy WORK IN PROGRESS premieres Sunday, August 22, with two back-to-back episodes. The series garnered critical acclaim in its first season with Now Toronto calling the show a smart comedy series that “LGBTQ+ viewers of all ages will love,” and Variety praising McEnany’s “remarkably solid performance from a comedian who knows her own voice.” Season 2 picks up with McEnany as a fictionalized version of herself, in the wake of her breakup (and almost out of almonds), as she begrudgingly accepts that she’s too busy to kill herself. In fact, she’s just starting to get her head above water, when a global pandemic converges with a family emergency, forcing her into uncharted territory. Following the premiere, the series follows a weekly release schedule with two episodes dropping Sundays at 11 p.m. ET on Crave.
AUGUST 22 – SHOWTIME’s GOSSIP *Season 1 Premiere*
- Starring long-time gossip columnist Cindy Adams, SHOWTIME’s new docuseries GOSSIP airs Sunday, August 22. Directed by Emmy nominee Jenny Carchman (THE FOURTH ESTATE), the four-episode series celebrates the history of tabloid reporting throughout the last half century, following Rupert Murdoch’s purchase of the New York Post, and the four-decade career of its legendary columnist, Adams. The world of tabloid journalism rose to popularity in New York City in the 1970s, and took the world by storm. Through the popularity of gossip, Adams and her fellow writers, over time, helped reshape journalism and set the agenda for who becomes famous for decades to come. Each episode distinctly dissects and dishes on how gossip and its stewards evolved across a different decade, reflecting on the biggest scoops and scandals.
AUGUST 22 – HBO’S NYC EPICENTERS 9/11 -> 2021 ½ *Series Premiere*
- Leading up to the 20th anniversary of 9/11, HBO’s four-part series NYC EPICENTERS 9/11 -> 2021 ½ from Spike Lee (HBO’s 4 LITTLE GIRLS), premieres Sunday, August 22 at 8 p.m. ET. Paying tribute to the city that shaped him and inspired some of his greatest work, Lee creates a rich tapestry of New York City in the 21st century, weaving together the stories, memories and insights of those who were eyewitnesses to New York’s greatest challenges. Lee opens his series with an in-depth chronicle of the pandemic as it ravaged his hometown of Brooklyn, speaking with doctors, medical professionals, first responders and family members of victims, and hearing emotional, wrenching testimonies. The series also recounts the demonstrations that took place in New York City in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, and the civil unrest and police brutality that followed, hearing from activists, photojournalists and reporters who witnessed first-hand the violent clashes with the police. Lee then turns his unique lens to the life-altering events of September 11, 2001, weaving together a fiercely vivid picture of that day as it unfolded for the New Yorkers on the ground, and the first responders who raced to the scene. The series follows a weekly release schedule, with new episodes dropping Sundays at 8 p.m. ET.
AUGUST 23 – BORN FOR BUSINESS *Series Premiere*
- All 10 episodes of the new docuseries from Shopify Studios, BORN FOR BUSINESS, drop on Monday, August 23. From the Emmy-Award winning creators behind BORN THIS WAY, BORN FOR BUSINESS chronicles the lives of four entrepreneurs with disabilities as they tackle the complexities of being their own boss, and what it takes to run a thriving, small business, with grace, courage, and humour. The series follows the stories of Qiana Allen of Culture’s Closet, a fashionista with lupus who opened a plus-sized boutique, which quickly became one of America’s top plus-size clothing stores; Collette Divitto of Collettey’s Cookies, a baker with Down syndrome who owns a successful cookie brand that employs people with disabilities; Chris Triebes of The Congregation Presents, a single father with spinal muscular atrophy (type III), who is making waves in the music industry with his concert production company, two venues, and music festival ticket service; and Lexi Zanghi of Always Reason, a millennial entrepreneur with anxiety who runs a three-year-old fashion brand that will soon expand to its first physical location. BORN FOR BUSINESS is the latest series to further Shopify’s goal to highlight and celebrate underrepresented entrepreneurs, and create a broader and more inclusive definition of entrepreneur.
