August arrives and it’s stacked with new programming anchored by new content from SHOWTIME. New series, documentaries, and specials that begin streaming August 1 include:
- CraveTV presents Seasons 1-7 of SHOWTIME’s wild, witty, and sexy series CALIFORNICATION, starring Golden Globe® winner David Duchovny as fast-living novelist Hank Moody who left the literary haunts of New York for the pleasure seeking splendours of L.A. The raunchy half-hour dark comedy that the Globe and Mail originally described as “…Hollywood writing about itself…CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM with more sex and plot”, begins streaming Friday, August 4 as part of CraveTV’s #iCraveFridays weekly roll-out of new content.
- Programming note: Beginning Sunday, August 6, TWIN PEAKS moves into a new timeslot. New episodes will stream at 8 p.m. ET, day-and-date with SHOWTIME in the US.
- The new season of RAY DONOVAN begins streaming Sunday, August 6 at 9 p.m. ET, day-and-date with SHOWTIME in the U.S. Starring three-time Emmy® nominee Liev Schreiber in the title role, Season 5 finds Ray turning his attention back to Hollywood and his celebrity fixer firm. Meanwhile, Mickey (Oscar® winner Jon Voight) is overjoyed to at last be welcomed into Ray’s home and swears to finally mend his criminal ways. Joining the series in a season-long arc is Oscar winner and four-time Emmy-nominated actress Susan Sarandon as legendary media mogul Samantha Winslow, who sets Ray against her own fixers in fear they may know too much. Additional Season 5 guest stars include: Brian White (CHICAGO FIRE), Adina Porter (AMERICAN HORROR STORY), Rhys Coiro (ENTOURAGE), Lili Simmons (HAWAII FIVE-0), Tara Buck (TRUE BLOOD), C. Thomas Howell (CRIMINAL MINDS),and Dominique Columbus (SICKHOUSE).
- CraveTV’s Comedy Central Collection grows with Season 3 of the cult series BROAD CITY and TOSH.O Season 9B. The 10-episode third season of BROAD CITY begins streaming Friday, August 11 and sees twenty-somethings Abbi and Ilana dealing with a whole new slew of everyday challenges and adventures as they live their lives in New York City, including a trip to the DMV, a rat in the apartment, going clubbing, taking on new job responsibilities, visiting Abbi’s dad, and new hookups. The latest season of TOSH.O streams Friday, August 25, continuing to hilariously harpoon famous viral videos and the people who create them.
- Labelled “the funniest person alive right now” by Vanity Fair, breakout star and comedian Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip) stars in the SHOWTIME stand-up special TIFFANY HADDISH: SHE READY! FROM THE HOOD TO HOLLYWOOD, streaming Friday, August 18 at 9 p.m. ET, day-and-date with SHOWTIME in the US.
- Matt LeBlanc returns for the fifth and final season of EPISODES, which begins streaming Sunday, August 20 at 10 p.m. ET, day-and-date with SHOWTIME in the U.S. In the final season, several months have passed and Matt’s game show is now a runaway hit, and Sean (Stephen Mangan, HOUDINI AND DOYLE) and Beverly (Tamsin Greig, FRIDAY NIGHT DINNER) are equally miserable as they watch his ex-partner slowly destroy their show.
- Rounding out the SHOWTIME summer series lineup is Season 2 of DICE, which begins streaming Sunday, August 20 at 10:30 p.m. ET, day-and-date with SHOWTIME in the U.S. Starring Andrew Dice Clay, the new season of the half-hour semi-autobiographical comedy digs deeper into Clay’s unconventional world, as he struggles to restart his career and deals with the effects of his outrageous brand of fame, all while living in the Vegas suburbs with his girlfriend Carmen (Natasha Leggero).
- Following its premiere at the 2017 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, SHOWTIME Documentary Films’ WHITNEY. “CAN I BE ME” begins streaming Friday, August 25 at 9 p.m. ET, day-and-date with SHOWTIME in the U.S. Directed by Nick Broomfield, the film is an intimate portrait of legendary six-time Grammy® winner Whitney Houston, featuring never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage, candid interviews, and gripping performance clips. The documentary explores her legendary career, and the impact her life and death had on the people around her and the world of music.
- Emmy and Golden Globe-nominee Michelle Dockery (DOWNTON ABBEY) stars in Season 1 of the drama series GOOD BEHAVIOR. Streaming Friday, August 25, the thriller tells the story of Letty Raines (Dockery), a thief and con artist whose life is always one wrong turn, or one bad decision from implosion – which is exactly how she likes it. Based on the bestselling Letty Dobesh Chroniclesby Blake Crouch.
- In addition to CALIFORNICATION, BROAD CITY, TOSH.O, and GOOD BEHAVIOR, #iCraveFridays continues in August with: Season 3 of KINGDOM starring Nick Jonas, and documentaries LENNY KRAVITZ: JUST LET GO from SHOWTIME as well as HBO’s MEET THE DONORS: DOES MONEY TALK? on August 4; action-packed disaster drama AFTERMATH; Season 1 and Season 2 of the hit drama series BLINDSPOT on August 11; DEADLIEST CATCH Season 11 and LUCIFER Season 2 on August 18; and comedy special NATASHA LEGGERO: LIVE AT BIMBO’S on August 25.
