Award-Winning Anchor Ken Shaw Celebrates 35 Years with CTV Toronto News Today

TORONTO (September 10,2014)– CTV Toronto News pays homage to veteran Anchor Ken Shaw, who today celebrates35 years of distinguished service. Co-Anchor of Toronto’s #1 newscasts CTV NEWS AT NOON and CTV NEWS AT SIX since April 2001,Shaw joined the CTV Toronto News team in 1979. Among his many awards andaccolades, this past March Shaw was recognized with the 2014 Canadian ScreenAward for Best News Anchor, Local, as awarded by the Academy of Canadian Cinema& Television.

 

Shaw has guided Torontoniansthrough some of the most memorable and momentous local and international newsheadlines, earning CTV News Toronto its distinction as the most-watched localnewscast in the GTA. From coverage of the G20 Summit in 2010, the ice storm thatleft thousands of Torontonians without power in December 2013, and countlessprovincial and municipal elections, to breaking key revelations in the Torontomayoral scandal, viewers turn to Ken Shaw and fellow Co-Anchor Michelle Dubé forthe headlines that matter most.

Shaw joined CTV Toronto News as a localbreaking news reporter in 1979, while also filing Canadian news stories for U.S.news affiliates including reports for ABC’s GOOD MORNING AMERICA, NIGHTLINE, andNBC’s TODAY SHOW. He later was appointed Anchor of the late-night CTV newscastin 1981, and was named National News Editor in 1998. From 1999 to 2001, Shawbecame a household staple among viewers across Canada serving as the WeekdayAnchor for CTV News Channel.

 

Outsideof his duties as Co-Anchor, Shaw has devoted countless hours to local charitiesand community initiatives. Notably, he has served as a Director of RonaldMcDonald House Charities of Canada, ProAction Cops & Kids, and haspreviously been named honourary Chief of Toronto Police Services for hiscontributions to the police force and their work within the community. In 2010,Shaw was honoured with the Order of Ontario for his excellence in volunteerservice in the GTA.

 

Morerecently, Shaw has served as Chair of the Whitby Abilities Centre, a 125,000square foot “Centre of Excellence,” which serves to assist people of all ageswith special needs. Additionally, on June 8, 2012, Shaw received an honouraryDoctor of Laws from University of Ontario Institute of Technology.
