TORONTO (April 11, 2022) Bell Media congratulates its production partners, team members, and talent on their exceptional achievements at the 2022 Canadian Screen Awards. With a total of 55 awards across television, digital, and film, Bell Media continues to be recognized for its commitment in championing and creating exceptional and engaging original Canadian content. Delivered through virtual presentations during Canadian Screen Week from April 4 – 11, Bell Media was honoured with 39 Canadian Screen Awards in television and digital categories, more than any other private broadcaster. 16 awards went to Bell Media-supported feature films, including six wins for the sci-fi dystopian thriller Night Raiders from Danis Goulet and starring Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers. “We are proud of the accomplishments of our production partners and colleagues who continue to produce the best Canadian content on television screens, digital platforms, and movie screens,” said Karine Moses, Senior Vice President, Content Development and News, Bell Media and Vice Chair, Québec, Bell. “Bell Media is proud to produce and elevate content that reflects all Canadians, and this year’s list of winners is a testament to that commitment.” CTV’s hit series TRANSPLANT, from Sphere Media, in association with CTV and Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group, led television honours with eight awards, including second consecutive wins for Best Drama Series; Best Lead Actor, Drama Series for Hamza Haq; and Best Writing, Drama Series (Joseph Kay); as well as wins for Best Lead Actress, Drama Series (Laurence Leboeuf); and Best Supporting Actress, Drama (Ayisha Issa). TRANSPLANT is available in French on Noovo. CTV Sci-Fi’s fan-driven series WYNONNA EARP, from SEVEN24 Films, landed six awards including Best Supporting Actor, Drama for Tim Rozon and the coveted Cogeco Fund Audience Award which was presented to a television series for the first time ever. Crave’s hit original series CANADA’S DRAG RACE, from Saloon Media/Blue Ant Studios, received six awards for its sophomore season, including Best Reality/Competition Program or Series for the second consecutive year, and Best Host or Presenter, Factual or Reality/Competition for Season 2 judges Brooke Lynn Hytes, Traci Melchor, Amanda Brugel, and Brad Goreski. The special CANADA’S DRAG RACE ANNIVERSARY EXTRAVAGANZA, from Bell Media Studios, took home the award for Best Variety or Entertainment Special. CTV Life Channel’s MARY MAKES IT EASY, from Proper Television, took home awards for Best Lifestyle Program or Series and Best Host, Lifestyle for series host Mary Berg – her third consecutive win in the category – while CTV Comedy Channel’s CORNER GAS ANIMATED, from Vérité Films, Sparrow Media, and Aslan Entertainment, took home two awards, including Best Animated Program or Series for the third year in a row. CTV News received four awards, with CTV News Chief Anchor and Senior Editor Lisa LaFlamme recognized as Best News Anchor, National for the second year in a row and CTV NEWS TORONTO AT 6 taking home Best Local Newscast. W5 was recognized with two wins this year, including Best Host or Interviewer, News or Information for Avery Haines. TSN’s Kayla Grey was named one of the winners of the Academy’s inaugural Changemaker Award, which recognizes those in Canadian media who are using their voice or platform to call out systemic racism and discrimination. Additionally, TSN picked up two wins for Best Sports Feature Segment and Best Sports Opening. Bell Media-supported films won 16 awards, led by the thriller Night Raiders, which took home six wins, including Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers and Original Screenplay for Danis Goulet. The film is now available for streaming on Crave in English, French, and Cree.
