Bell Media Congratulates its Production Partners on 157 Nominations for the 2014 Canadian Screen Awards

TORONTO (Jan. 13, 2014) – Bell Media congratulated its production partners and honoured its internal staff on their 2014 Canadian Screen Awards nominations, announced earlier today. Bell Media received more nominations than any other broadcaster with 157, up from 91 in 2013, including nods for programs from more than two dozen Canadian independent producers, as well as its news, sports, and in-house productions teams.

Space’s critically-acclaimed smash-hit ORPHAN BLACK from Temple Street Productions led the TV nominations with 14, more than any other television program. CTV News programs, along with The Movie Network comedy series LESS THAN KIND from Breakthrough Entertainment & Buffalo Gal Pictures, earned 12 nominations apiece. TMN’s CALL ME FITZ from Amaze Film + Television/Big Motion Pictures/eOne and FLASHPOINT from Pink Sky Entertainment/Avamar Entertainment earned eight nominations each. Bravo’s THE BORGIAS from Take 5 Productions earned seven nominations, while DHX’s SATISFACTION and THE 2013 JUNO AWARDS from Insight Productions/CARAS were recognized with six nominations apiece. DEGRASSI from Epitome Pictures and SAVING HOPE from Ilana C. Frank Films (ICF Films)/ eOne were nominated five times, while the 2013 MUCHMUSIC VIDEO AWARDS received four nominations. Altogether, Discovery Channel and Discovery World garnered 17 nominations for a range of reality and factual programming, the most ever for the channels. Canada’s sports leader, TSN, earned 16 nominations for its array of live sports coverage, in-house productions, and documentary programming, up from 11 in 2013. In addition to 12 nominations, an increase of four from 2013, CTV News will also be honoured with two special Canadian Screen Awards. The country’s longest-running newsmagazine program, W5, will receive the Gordon Sinclair Award for Broadcast Journalism and CTV News will receive the Outstanding Technical Achievement Award for the innovative iGATEWAY technology, an internally developed HD app that accelerates file transfers in the field to the editor preparing the material for air. “Congratulations to everyone involved in Bell Media’s astounding 157 Canadian Screen Award nominations,” said Kevin Crull, President, Bell Media. “We are proud to work with the best of the best, both among Canada’s independent production community and within our own company.
