TORONTO (June 3, 2021) – Following a virtual gala held this evening by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA), Bell Media congratulates its team members on their 37 wins from the 2021 RTDNA National and Local News Awards. Recognizing outstanding achievements in electronic and digital journalism, Bell Media received a total of 36 National and Local News wins at tonight’s ceremony. In addition, Bell Media’s VP, News Wendy Freeman was presented with an esteemed Lifetime Achievement Award, for outstanding service and continued excellence in her journalism career. “My biggest congratulations to all of our winners and nominees for their commitment to delivering exceptional journalism that Canadians can trust,” said Wendy Freeman, VP, News, Bell Media. “On a personal note, I’m deeply honoured to receive RTDNA Canada’s Lifetime Achievement Award, which is a true testament to the outstanding leadership, skill, and dedication of all of my colleagues throughout the years at CTV News.” CTV News received top honours in the national categories, with CTV NATIONAL NEWS WITH LISA LAFLAMME awarded Best TV Newscast, and the network’s “Coronavirus in Canada” digital reports being recognized with Best Continuing Coverage. CTV News’ W5, Canada’s most-watched documentary series, received a total of four awards, including Best News Information Program, and two wins for the program’s in-depth coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic: Best Feature News for “The Host”, and the Excellence in Innovation award for “Inside Wuhan – Life at Ground Zero of the Coronavirus Outbreak”. In the local news categories, CTV Vancouver’s CTV NEWS AT SIX was awarded Best TV Newscast (Large Market) and Best Live Special Events for ELECTION 2020. CTV Toronto was recognized with Best Breaking News (Large Market). TSN was honoured with two National wins, including Excellence in Sports Reporting for the feature “Where Can We Be Black?” and Best Live Special Events for the network’s coverage of the 2020 IIHF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP.
