Bell Media Series Nab 230 Nominations for THE 70th EMMY® AWARDS, with HBO Canada’s GAME OF THRONES Leading in Most Nominations

The Television Academy announced its nominations for THE 70^th ANNUAL PRIMETIME EMMY^® AWARDS and, once again, Bell Media programming has swept up an impressive number of nods. HBO Canada’s epic GAME OF THRONES leads the way with noms, along with sci-fi western WESTWORLD, and Bravo’s dystopian drama THE HANDMAID’S TALE. THE VOICE, THIS IS US, and THE OSCARS lead the pack in nominations for CTV. In total, Bell Media’s conventional, specialty, and pay television networks have garnered an impressive 230 Emmy nominations. Hosted by Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost and Michael Che, THE 70^th EMMY^® AWARDS airs live on Monday, Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. MT on CTV and CTV GO.

With its return to eligibility, HBO Canada’s GAME OF THRONES earned the most nominations – 22 in total – in a variety of categories, including Outstanding Drama Series, and Outstanding Supporting Actor for Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Peter Dinklage. Following behind with 21 nominations, HBO Canada’s WESTWORLD garnered nominations in coveted categories such as Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Evan Rachel Wood, Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Ed Harris and Jeffrey Wright, and the coveted Outstanding Drama Series. Season 2 of critical darling THE HANDMAID’S TALE, earned 20 nominations in categories such as Lead Actress in a Drama Series for lead Elisabeth Moss, and Outstanding Drama Series. The second season wraps up this Sunday, July 15 at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo. For the second year in a row, stars of CTV’s THIS IS US Sterling K. Brown and Milo Ventimiglia have earned nominations in Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. The emotionally charged drama is up for 8 nominations, including a series nod for Outstanding Drama Series.

Bravo’s highly anticipated drama KILLING EVE, taking THE HANDMAID’S TALE’s Sunday night slot at 9 p.m. ET beginning July 22, was nominated for 2 Emmy’s. Its lead, Canadian Sandra Oh, is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, making her the first Asian woman ever to be nominated in this category. Fellow Canadian actress Tatiana Maslany is also up for Oustanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, for her roles in the  final season of Space’s acclaimed original series ORPHAN BLACK.
