MONSTERS INSIDE ME returns for an all-new fourth season on Tuesday, October 15 at 8 p.m. ET/10 p.m. PT on Discovery Science, featuring tiny monsters patiently waiting to invade the human body at unsuspecting moments. A parasitic or viral attack is like a tumultuous roller coaster within the body that can take terrifying – sometimes deadly – twists and turns. DAILY PLANET co-host Dr. Dan Riskin provides scientific perspective throughout this 12-part series that vividly recounts the stories of people tormented by these insidious creatures that invade their bodies.

Season 4 of MONSTERS INSIDE ME highlights stories about people who are victim to bot fly larvae, West Nile virus, rabies, rat lungworms, and much, much worse. The season also reveals the rare-but-possible consequences of negligibly washed produce, and the dangers of swallowing foreign items. Parasites and viruses, which are often microscopic, have mastered the most ingenious survival strategies. Designed to devour nutrients at their hosts’ expenses, parasites cause complete chaos, often resulting in the total annihilation of immune systems and weakened ability to fight back. Viruses are also enduring microorganisms, able to mutate quickly and destroy the functioning of important cells. In the much-anticipated season premiere – “The Flesh-Eating Monster” – three people fall victim to a hidden killer…

Three people – each enjoys the freedoms of the great outdoors – and each victim to a hidden killer. In Pagosa Springs, Colorado, a seven-year-old girl’s love of nature and animals comes back to bite her as she is overcome by a world of mysterious seizures and painful rashes, and winds up in a deadly coma. In Colorado Springs, Colorado, a yoga-loving college graduate’s health spirals viciously out of control when “the flu” turns out to be a flesh-eating monster. In Hilo, Hawaii, a high school wrestling champion gets knocked off his feet while learning about organic farming for school.
