TORONTO (July 3, 2025) – Longtime BNN Bloomberg anchor and reporter Paul Bagnell announced today his decision to retire. The announcement comes following a remarkable career in journalism that has spanned 40 years, including 24 years with BNN Bloomberg. Bagnell’s final broadcast is Friday, July 18.
“Anchoring and reporting at BNN Bloomberg has been the highlight of my 40-year career in journalism. As a young reporter eager to tell important stories to a big audience, I never dreamed that one day I would anchor daily broadcasts relaying the day’s most important economic and market news,” said Bagnell. “Along the way, I have been able to speak to many of the country’s top business leaders, and some of the smartest people on Bay Street. And I’ve loved hearing from BNN Bloomberg viewers, an audience that is keen to learn more every day. It’s been great, and I will miss it. At the same time, I know BNN Bloomberg is in very good hands, with strong leadership and talented journalists ready to step up and take on larger roles. I’ll be watching from home!”
“Paul has been a trusted voice for Canadian viewers, sharing with them the biggest business news stories happening in this country for decades, and over the next few weeks we will look back at his incredible contributions and celebrate his great career,” said Richard Gray, VP News, Bell Media. “Paul has always maintained an exemplary commitment to serving our viewers, and his skill as an anchor and reporter will be greatly missed in our newsroom. We are grateful for all of his contributions to BNN Bloomberg, and wish him a very fulfilling retirement.”
Bagnell’s tenure with BNN Bloomberg began in 2001. He has been BNN Bloomberg’s reporter at landmark court rulings such as the Livent fraud trial, the Nortel Networks fraud trial, and the BCE bondholders case at the Supreme Court of Canada.
Before joining BNN Bloomberg, Bagnell was a reporter at the Financial Post for seven years, covering numerous beats. Prior to that, he was a correspondent in Ottawa and Washington for Thomson Newspapers.
