MONTREAL, February 21, 2014—RDS is delighted to announce that former Montreal Alouette Bruno Heppell is joining its team as a commentator and analyst. Bruno played eight seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL), all for the Montreal franchise, with whom he won a Grey Cup in 2002.
He will provide informed commentary to RDS viewers during broadcasts of Alouettes, CFL, NFL and NCAA football games, alongside two other former Grey Cup winners, Pierre Vercheval and Matthieu Proulx.
“We’re extremely proud that Bruno has chosen to pursue his successful football analyst career at RDS, and I’m sure our many viewers will be just as excited as we are,” said Domenic Vannelli, Vice-President, Production, at RDS. “A well-known and respected figure within the Quebec football world, Bruno knows how to convey his knowledge and passion for the game to all fans, by providing an expert combination of in-depth analysis and straightforward talk. He will be the perfect addition to RDS’s strong lineup of renowned broadcasters.”
“I’m thrilled to be joining the team at RDS, Quebec’s number-one sports network and a true benchmark when it comes to football coverage,” noted Bruno. “I’ll have the chance to share my views on football with fans on a regular basis, as part of a dynamic, insightful team of journalists and experts who always give their all for viewers. It’s the ideal situation for a guy like me, who wants to play a role on a winning team!”
Besides contributing to live football broadcasts, Bruno will be part of the analysis team called on to discuss the latest issues on RDS’s various information shows.
Selected in the third round (21st overall) by the Montreal Alouettes in the 1997 CFL draft, Bruno represented the Montreal franchise throughout the eight years (1997 to 2004) he spent in the CFL. As a fullback, he played an active role in the team’s success, most notably by opening up holes for Mike Pringle, the most successful running back in CFL history, and protecting star quarterback Anthony Calvillo. Named to the 2001 and 2002 East Division All-Star Teams by his peers, he was a key component of the Alouettes’ 2002 Grey Cup-winning team. Having officially retired from the CFL in 2005, he has worked in the media field as a football analyst for almost ten years now.
