To mark International Women’s Day today (March 8), Canada’s Sports Leader celebrates and reflects on the incredible achievements made by women in the world of sports.

TSN provides comprehensive coverage of women’s sports, features, and documentaries throughout the day, which began with early round coverage of WTA 1000 action from Dubai at 3 a.m. ET on TSN2.

SPORTSCENTRE shares the story of Canadian Sam Rapoport, the Senior Director, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the NFL. Formerly a quarterback for the Montreal Blitz, Rapoport’s passion for football is matched by her desire to enfranchise the marginalized. As well, the show features a piece on women fighters in the UFC, voiced by decorated MMA fighter Amanda Nunes.

The network also launches a permanent page on TSN.ca showcasing stories, features, and profiles celebrating the athletic and social achievements of women in sport.

TSN’s social media channels celebrate International Women’s Day with a multitude of highlights, including:

  • A thread on Twitter detailing a history of women’s hockey
  • A video from the women behind BarDown parodying hockey as a “girls club”
  • A variety of articles on BarDown.com, including how to be a better ally for women in sport, moments in the past year where women owned sports, and up-and-coming female athletes fans need to know about
  • DIGITAL SC speaks with Steph Klein, the first female equipment manager in men’s pro hockey, as well as NFL referee Sarah Thomas, who was the first woman to referee in the Super Bowl

”TSN maintains a daily commitment to including women’s voices in telling sports stories and covering the biggest live events all through the year,” said Nathalie Cook, Vice President, TSN and RDS. “We’re proud to mark International Women’s Day by shining the spotlight on just some of the uniquely talented women in our industry, as a tribute to the power of women in sport.”

Today, TSN features all-female panels in the network’s regional broadcasts of the Ottawa Senators vs. Edmonton Oilers (9 p.m. ET on TSN5) and Montreal Canadiens vs. Vancouver Canucks (10 p.m. ET on TSN2), with Lindsay Hamilton, Hailey Salvian, and Cheryl Pounder leading SENS ON TSN coverage, and Laura Diakun and Sami Jo Small leading HABS ON TSN coverage. The broadcasts also feature contributions from Hockey Hall of Famers Angela James and Kim St-Pierre, plus current Team Canada member Renata Fast.

Additionally, as announced today by the Toronto Raptors, TSN delivers the NBA’s first all-female regular season game broadcast featuring Meghan McPeak, Kia Nurse, Kayla Grey, Kate Beirness, and Amy Audibert, as the Raptors face the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday, Mar. 24 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
