As Canadians have been urged to stay home as much as possible to help fight the spread of COVID-19, many are left wondering how to maintain their fitness levels and stay positive during self-isolation.  Since launching the Crave series HEALTHY IS HOT, wellness and fitness advocate Chloe Wilde has inspired viewers across Canada to start new goals, hobbies, and opportunities that lead to a healthier and happier life. But in quarantine, some may lack structure, physical activity, and a regular schedule.  Wilde believes that being active can lower anxiety, improve one’s wellbeing, and support one’s immune system, and while challenging in self-isolation, has found ways to keep up with her physical and mental health. Here are her tips: Morning routine. Wake up at the same time every day and create a solid morning routine. I press snooze once, have a coffee, get a workout in, make breakfast (lately it’s been a smoothie with oat milk, one banana, dash of vanilla, sprinkle of cinnamon, spoonful of peanut butter and vanilla protein powder), and a 10-minute meditation. Our morning routines set the tone for our entire day – this is your chance to be in the driver’s seat. Buckle up. Celebrate the little wins. This can be as simple as changing out of your pajamas, organizing a part of your home (that pesky junk drawer?), or choosing to make a fresh homemade meal instead of opting for something frozen popped into the oven. Make time for movement. With the new reality of physical distancing, we are out and about a lot less, which is why we have to make a conscious effort to move. Whether you have gym equipment or not, there are great at-home workouts you can do! If you need to run an essential errand, use it as an opportunity to turn it into a walk. If you live in a building, stop taking the elevator and instead use the stairs. Try to get 100 squats in each day, break them up into 10 rounds of 10 and spread them out (10 squats every hour – you got this!). Call a loved one. Although we may be physically distancing, this doesn’t mean that we have to socially disconnect. Use each day as an opportunity to call or video chat a loved one, an old friend, or a colleague. There is a lot that is out of our control at the moment, but the people we stay in touch with is entirely up to us – with each call try to spread a little love, a little light, and a little hope. You will feel different when you hang up, I promise. An extension of that is to reduce any interaction that is bringing negative energy into your life, unfollow accounts on social media that don’t add value, and unsubscribe from e-mails that do the same. Do something that brings you joy every day. This is the truest form of self-care. Sure, it can be face masks, bubble baths, and a yummy oat milk latte, but it can also be dancing your heart out to your favourite song, tackling that sourdough recipe, or escaping into a novel. Allow yourself 30 minutes a day to feel true joy. Your mental health will thank you. While hunkered down at home, viewers can stream all six episodes of HEALTHY IS HOT, only on Crave. Plus, check out some of Wilde’s quick home workout videos available now on her Instagram.
