This year marks a half-century on air for CHOM 97 7! To celebrate this milestone anniversary, the station is presenting a show at MTelus on October 28 featuring the Tea Party, Sam Roberts Band, Michel Pagliaro and The Damn Truth.
A little background
On October 28, 1969, DJ Doug Pringle launched the station with “Here Comes the Sun” by the Beatles. Over the years, the talent behind the microphone has included legends such as Terry DiMonte, Tootall, Peppermint Patti and Denis Grondin, who have helped kickstart the careers of many rock giants. For instance, CHOM 97 7 was one of the first stations in North America to broadcast the songs of Styx, Supertramp, Genesis, Yes and Chris de Burgh!
50th anniversary Fridays
Each Friday at 7:10 a.m., Terry DiMonte reminisces about memorable moments from the past 50 years with a member of the CHOM 97 7 team. Also on Fridays, the “Chronicles of Rock” segment, hosted by Randy Renaud at 2 p.m., traces the station’s history, going all the way back to the initial broadcast.
“First and foremost, we want to thank our loyal listeners. Over 1.4 million people* tune in to the station each week,” says Mathew Wood, Program Director. “CHOM 97 7 would not exist today without their diehard support, and we want to celebrate this historic occasion with them!”
Tickets for the show will go on sale Friday, September 27, at 10 a.m. They will be available from Ticketmaster for $9.77, plus taxes and service charges.
