Coming to Crave in January: From HBO, the highly anticipated Season 3 premiere of TRUE DETECTIVE, plus new seasons of comedy series CRASHING and HIGH MAINTENANCE; from SHOWTIME, the series premiere of comedy BLACK MONDAY, a new season of the Golden Globe-nominated comedy SMILF, and the Season 6 finale of RAY DONOVAN; the final STAR TREK: SHORT TREK, and new movie premieres including Hotel Transylvania 3, Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado, Ocean’s 8.
Here is some of the key programming streaming on Crave in January (premiere dates and times are listed below):
- Created by Nic Pizzolatto, HBO’s award-winning dark drama TRUE DETECTIVE returns for its eight-episode third season with two back-to-back episodes on January 13. Mahershala Ali – Academy Award®-winner for Moonlight and current Golden Globe Award®, Screen Actors Guild Award, and Critics’ Choice Award nominee for his role in Green Book – stars as Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas. Playing out in three separate time periods, the third season tells the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades. Carmen Ejogo (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) and Stephen Dorff (STAR) also star.
- Also from HBO: premiering January 19, Benedict Cumberbatch (PATRICK MELROSE) stars in the HBO film BREXIT, exploring the controversial tactics employed by the brain trust behind the 2016 “Vote Leave” campaign to convince British voters to leave the European Union; comedy series CRASHING and HIGH MAINTENANCE both return with back-to-back Season 3 Premieres on January 20; and comedian Amanda Seales (INSECURE) makes her stand-up debut in the hour-long special AMANDA SEALES: I BE KNOWIN’ on January 26.
- Executive produced by Canada’s own Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who also directed the pilot episode, SHOWTIME’s new comedy series BLACK MONDAY premieres on January 20. Starring Don Cheadle (HOUSE OF LIES), who also serves as executive producer, Andrew Rannells (GIRLS), and Regina Hall (Girls Trip), the series takes viewers back in time to October 19, 1987 – a.k.a Black Monday, the worst stock market crash in the history of Wall Street.
- Also from SHOWTIME: the Golden Globe-nominated comedy SMILF, starring creator, executive producer, and showrunner Frankie Shaw, returns for Season 2 on January 20 and Season 6 of RAY DONOVAN wraps up on January 13.
- Movies premiering this month include: Super Troopers 2, Truth or Dare, Tully, First Reformed, Sicario: Day of Soldado, Ocean’s 8, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, and Tag.
- Ahead of the Season 2 premiere of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY, the final STAR TREK: SHORT TREK, “Escape Artist,” premieres January 4. In this episode, Harry Mudd, back to his old tricks of stealing and double-dealing, finds himself in a precarious position aboard a hostile ship – just in time to try out his latest con.
- Continuing the STAR TREK: DISCOVERY anticipation, on January 2 Crave launches ten themed STAR TREK episode collections. Each collection features select episodes from various STAR TREK series following specific themes including: Q, The Borg, The Holodeck, Time Travel, Star Trek x The Big Bang Theory (featuring every BIG BANG THEORY episode with a cameo from STAR TREK cast members), Mirror Universe, Crossover Episodes, Tribbles, Beam Me Up, and Captain Pike.
- New episodes of the STARZ espionage thriller COUNTERPART, starring Academy Award®-winner K. Simmons, continue to stream on Sundays throughout January. BOSS joins the STARZ selects collection on January 11, starring Kelsey Grammar who plays Chicago mayor Tom Kane who struggles to keep his grip on power in Chicago after being diagnosed with dementia disorder.
- THE BEAVERTON YEAR IN REVIEW: 2018 joins Crave on January 1, following its New Year’s Eve premiere on CTV. The one-hour special sees THE BEAVERTON hosts Emma Hunter and Miguel Rivas weigh in with the Top 18 (occasionally surreal) news story from the last year.
- Season 3 of the hit Comedy Central series ANOTHER PERIOD, starring Natasha Leggero and Riki Lindhome, begins streaming January 4. This season, The Bellacourts’ fight for suffrage in congress, become some of America’s first female Olympic athletes, deal with an opioid addiction, and campaign to make America great again, for the first time.
- The Crave Discovery collection expands this month with new programming including: Season 3 of HIGHWAY THROUGH HELL (January 4), FINDING ESCOBAR’S MILLIONS (January 11), and Season 4 of ALASKA: THE LAST FRONTIER (January 25).
