A.RTIFICIAL I.MMORTALITY (Crave Original Documentary) Opening Night Film Directed by award-winning Canadian filmmaker Ann Shin, A.RTIFICIAL I.MMORTALITY explores the latest technological advancements in AI, robotics, and biotech to pose the tempting question: if you could live forever through AI, would you? Inspired by the transhumanist movement and facing the reality of death as her father suffers from dementia, Shin begins an investigation into the complex world of digital cloning through AI. This cinematic documentary explores the latest technological advancements in AI, robotics and biotech, and poses the question: what is the essence of the human mind, and can this be replicated? Or even more unsettling, could we one day meet cloned versions of ourselves – clones which are better, smarter, and immortal?

FANNY: THE RIGHT TO ROCK (Crave Original Documentary) Fanny: The Right to Rock celebrates the untold story of three Filipina women who formed the ferocious rock group Fanny, the first band of women to release an LP with a major record label. According to Documentary.org, “Fanny blasted glass ceilings of racism and sexism back in the 1960s and 70s, with the lesbian bandmates told they either hide their LBGTQ identity or leave the band. And these feisty women of colour now take on the stigmas of ageism as well, proving that age is just a number, that brown skin is just a colour, and how true success is defined by embracing our identity and letting go of the limits and expectations we put on ourselves.” Directed by Bobbi Jo Hart, the film features Bonnie Raitt, Kathy Valentine and Earl Slick, Joe Elliott, and other music icons.

IN THE SAME BREATH (HBO) Nanfu Wang’s (director of One Child Nation, winner of Sundance’s Grand Jury Prize) searing investigation into Covid-19’s origins and spread exposes not only a global crisis of misinformation, but the leadership that misled the world about a still-unfolding emergency.
