HBO took home more trophies than any other network or streaming platform at the 72nd PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS, which hit a home run with an unconventional and highly entertaining socially distanced ceremony last night on CTV. More big wins for Crave programming went to RUPAUL’S DRAG RACE, including its third consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Competition Program. Some of the highlights from the 2020 Emmys:
(Regina King accepts her Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie)
HBO’s powerful and timely drama WATCHMEN led all programming with 11 wins. WATCHMEN was rewarded for Outstanding Limited Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie (Regina King), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), and Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie or Dramatic Special (creator Damon Lindelof). Catch the entire series on Crave.
(Jeremy Strong accepts his Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama)
Considered by many as the biggest award of the night, Outstanding Drama Series went to SUCCESSION, which earned seven trophies in total, including a win for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Jeremy Strong). Series creator Jesse Armstrong – who won the award for Writing for a Drama Series – wryly accepted the Best Drama victory by “un-thanking” COVID-19 and Donald Trump. Seasons 1-2 of SUCCESSION are available for streaming on Crave, with a third season coming soon.
(David Lettermen presents the Emmy For Outstanding Variety Talk Series to John Oliver)
LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER had four wins, including Outstanding Variety Talk Series, and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series. Having just been renewed by HBO through 2023, the always topical series returns with new episodes on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 11 p.m. ET, only on Crave.
(Zendaya accepts her Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama)
Zendaya made history as the youngest person to ever win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for EUPHORIA, prompting a social media shout-out from Drake, who serves as an executive producer on the show. EUPHORIA, which is slated to return for a second season, took home a total of three awards and is available for streaming on Crave.
(RuPaul accepts the Emmy for Outstanding Competition Series)
Yass!! RUPAUL’S DRAG RACE won six Emmys, nabbing its third consecutive win for Outstanding Competition Program, and a fifth consecutive win for RuPaul for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program.
