CTV Commemorates True Canadian Heroes with REMEMBRANCE DAY 2013, Monday, Nov. 11

TORONTO (November 6, 2013) – CTV pays tribute to the men and women of Canada’s military on Monday, Nov. 11 at 10:30 a.m. ET/7:30 a.m. PT with REMEMBRANCE DAY 2013, also simulcasting on CTV2. Anchored by Lisa LaFlamme, chief news anchor and senior editor of CTV National News, CTV will broadcast live from Ottawa with special coverage of the Remembrance Day Ceremony at the National War Memorial, paying homage to Canada’s heroic veterans. The commercial free, 90-minute broadcast unites Canadians from coast-to-coast-to-coast, honouring the bravery and selflessness of those who protect Canada during times of war and serve as peacekeepers internationally.

The broadcast team joining LaFlamme on REMEMBRANCE DAY 2013 includes an expert panel comprised of CTV News political correspondent Craig Oliver, CTV News Ottawa bureau chief and host of QUESTION PERIOD, Robert Fife, and CTV News reporter Mercedes Stephenson. The team is set to deliver a first-hand look at the National War Memorial ceremony as it unfolds. Additionally, CTV Atlantic bureau chief Todd Battis will be live from the historic Garrison City of Halifax, taking viewers inside the city’s Remembrance Day memorial services.

Delivering further insight, commentary, and richer historical context on Remembrance Day in Canada, CTV News has invited special guests to join its panel, including Jane Urquhart, award-winning Canadian author of The Stone Carvers, a novel set at the time of the First World War and the building of the Vimy Memorial, as well as Sanctuary Line, a narrative that circles around the war in Afghanistan. Also joining the panel is retired General Rick Hillier, who commanded the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan, before being appointed Chief of the Defence Staff, the Canadian Forces’ highest rank.

Online, CTVNews.ca will deliver a live view of events taking place at Ottawa’s National War Memorial, as well as coverage of Remembrance Day ceremonies taking place in Toronto and Barrie. In addition, the site will feature a special section with a list of major ceremonies taking place in cities across Canada, and will also track the Remembrance Day story that unfolds on social media across Canada.

For viewers in Toronto, CP24’s extensive Remembrance Day begins at 8 a.m. with traffic / safety specialist Cam Wooley reporting live on site at the 85^th annual Sunrise Ceremony held by the Royal Canadian Legion at Prospect Cemetery. Then at 10 a.m., reporters Jackie Crandles and Katie Simpson take viewers inside Toronto’s main Remembrance Day Ceremony at Old City Hall. Live streaming of Toronto’s Remembrance Day ceremonies will also be available on CP24.com.
