CALGARY (September 21, 2021) – CTV News Calgary announced today that Kevin Stanfield has been named Weather Anchor for the station’s weekday newscasts, succeeding longtime broadcaster David Spence, who announced his retirement earlier this year. Stanfield has been with CTV News Calgary for the past five years, and has established himself as not only a reliable forecaster, but also a viewer favourite. Stanfield leads weather coverage for the station’s weekday editions of CTV NEWS AT FIVE, CTV NEWS AT SIX, and CTV NEWS AT 11:30, beginning in the coming weeks.
“While I’ll miss waking up with Calgarians and the amazing team at CTV MORNING LIVE, I can’t wait to join our evening newscast crew,” said Stanfield. “It’s a great honour to step into the role held by David Spence, and I will work tirelessly to make sure Calgary and Southern Alberta viewers can continue to count on CTV News for the most accurate forecast in the province.”
As he retires this fall after more than 40 years on the air with CTV News Calgary, Spence says viewers will be well-served in the years to come with Stanfield leading the station’s forecasts and weather information.
“Kevin is a skilled meteorologist and a talented broadcaster who has earned the trust of viewers across the region,” said Spence. “My decision to leave a job that has been such a big part of my life for the past four decades is easier knowing our viewers will be in good hands with Kevin.”
Stanfield began his career as a news reporter in Smithers, B.C. and moved into the role of traffic reporter in Toronto before becoming a weather anchor. He is passionate about his craft and holds a Meteorology degree from Mississippi State University. He and his wife Courtney live in Calgary with their three children and two dogs.
