REGINA (December 31, 2020) – As announced tonight during the station’s CTV NEWS AT SIX, CTV Regina confirms that Debbie Rodger is the recipient of the 2020 Regina Citizen of the Year Award.

“Debbie Rodger exemplifies a truly selfless community member,” said Jeff Bollenbach, General Manager, Manitoba/Saskatchewan, Radio and Television, Bell Media. “Her tireless dedication to nursing and volunteering across five decades has made her community a better place. We are deeply honoured to present her with this year’s Regina Citizen of the Year Award.”

Rodger, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, has been a Registered Nurse for 44 years. She was set to retire at the end of 2019, but the pandemic saw her pressed into service in the fight against COVID-19. For years she has focused on those living with HIV/AIDS, having spoken at both the Canadian Association of Nurses conference as well as the Association of Nurses conference in AIDS Care.

Rodger is an ardent supporter of various skating and synchronized skating clubs in Regina, and has volunteered her time to a multitude of events and initiatives across the city, including the Grey Cup, Memorial Cup, Santas Anonymous, and the Queen City Marathon. She was recognized for her outstanding volunteerism by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2017.

The Regina Citizen of the Year Award presented by CTV is an annual tradition now in its 18th year. Each November, CTV Regina accepts nominations from viewers for the award, and at the end of December, the award is presented to an individual who exemplifies excellence in community service.
