SASKATOON (December 31, 2022) – CTV News Saskatoon announced tonight during CTV NEWS AT SIX that Mark Arcand is the recipient of the 2022 Saskatoon Citizen of the Year Award. “Mark’s many contributions to our city extend beyond his role as Tribal Chief for Saskatoon Tribal Council,” said Jeff Bollenbach, General Manager, Manitoba/Saskatchewan, Radio and Television, Bell Media. “He works tirelessly to create an inclusive environment in our community, with an aim toward improving the lives of all citizens, especially those most vulnerable.” Arcand is a member of the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation and has called Saskatoon home for the past 29 years. He was first elected in 2017 as the Tribal Chief of the Saskatoon Tribal Council, which provides leadership to seven nations in the Treaty 6 Territory. More recently, Arcand has worked on the expansion of the Emergency Wellness Centre, a shelter that provides housing for more than 100 vulnerable members of the community. Chief Arcand is a husband, a father of four, and grandfather of three. The Saskatoon Citizen of the Year Award presented by CTV is an annual tradition now in its 56th year. Each November, CTV Saskatoon accepts nominations from viewers for the Saskatoon Citizen of the Year Award and presents the award at the end of December to an individual who exemplifies excellence in community service.
