CTV Programming Highlights: March 1 – 16

March begins with a blockbuster bang, featuring a full slate of OSCAR®-related programming leading up to CTV’s broadcast of THE ACADEMY AWARDS broadcast. The month also features the series premiere of CTV’s new original comedy series SPUN OUT; the return of CTV’s original hit crime drama MOTIVE; new episodes of CTV’s original hit culinary competition series, MASTERCHEF CANADA; and the spring premiere of ONCE UPON A TIME. Programming Highlights for March 1 – 16 on CTV include:

  • Canada’s #1 entertainment series presents a full hour of OSCARS trivia and celebrity fun facts to help viewers win their Oscar pool in ETALK’S ULTIMATE OSCAR GUIDE (March 1).
  • Dave Foley (SPUN OUT) guest stars on a special episode of HOT IN CLEVELAND (March 1).
  • Before being honoured at this year’s OSCARS as it celebrates its 75th anniversary, the Academy Award-winning film THE WIZARD OF OZ airs on CTV (March 2).
  • Hosted by the hilarious Ellen DeGeneres (THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW), THE OSCARS airs live across the country from the Dolby Theatre™ in Los Angeles (March 2). In addition to the television broadcast on CTV, the network will unlock CTV GO – the free app that provides livestreaming of Canada’s top programming – for all web and mobile users to enjoy the live broadcast of THE OSCARS.
  • The 11 finalists face an emotional Mystery Box Challenge that takes them back to their roots on MASTERCHEF CANADA (March 3).

  • When it seems like Dave (Dave Foley) and his ex-wife Claudia (Tricia Helfer, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA) may get back together, Stephanie (Rebecca Dalton) will do anything to return her parents to their state of un-marital bliss, in Part 2 of the two-night series premiere of CTV’s new original comedy SPUN OUT, in its regular 8 p.m. ET timeslot (March 7).

Saturday, March 1

4:30 p.m. – MOVIE NIGHT
E!’s MOVIE NIGHT takes viewers inside the Hollywood film industry and keeps audiences up to speed on the notable flicks to watch, which ones to skip entirely, and everything in between. In this episode of MOVIE NIGHT, hosts Leah Miller, Tyrone Edwards, and Chloe Wilde discuss their top five Oscar-nominated movies of the year in the show’s Fave5 segment. MOVIE NIGHT will also livestream on CTV.ca and the CTV GO app.

 

5:30 p.m. – RED CARPET READY: 10 YEARS OF ETALK AT THE OSCARS – ENCORE BROADCAST

The road to The Oscars begins as ETALK celebrates a decade on the red carpet. The half-hour special looks back at ETALK’s favourite and most memorable moments covering The Academy Awards®, including game-changing red carpet questions – like when Jennifer Lawrence’s mother exclusively revealed to Ben Mulroney that she was reading The Hunger Games, before Lawrence was announced to play the role of Katniss Everdeen in the successful film franchise. Hosted by Ben Mulroney, Tanya Kim, Lainey, and ETALK executive producer Morley Nirenberg, the special also examines the program’s best and worst red carpet moments, behind-the-scenes secrets, and the best red carpet looks from the past decade. 7 p.m. – ETALK’S ULTIMATE OSCAR GUIDE NEW SPECIAL

ETALK presents a full hour of Oscar fun facts and celebrity scoop to help viewers win their Oscar pool with ETALK’S ULTIMATE OSCAR GUIDE. The new, one-hour special features trivia, a review of this year’s nominations and predictions, award season fashion roundups and red carpet predictions, and everything viewers need to know from the entire ETALK team. ETALK’S ULTIMATE OSCAR GUIDE will also livestream and be available on demand following the broadcast at CTV.ca and the CTV GO app.

9:30 p.m. – HOT IN CLEVELAND – “What Now, My Love?”

Victoria’s (Wendie Malick) movie is ending and she’s unsure where that leaves her relationship with Emmet (Alan Dale, ONCE UPON A TIME). Meanwhile, Melanie (Valerie Bertinelli) wonders where her relationship with Alec (Jay Harrington, BETTER OFF TED) is going, and Joy (Jane Leeves) uncovers something mysterious about Elka (Betty White) during her new internship. Dave Foley from CTV’s new original comedy SPUN OUT guest stars.

 

10 p.m. – SAVING HOPE – “Broken Hearts” – SEASON FINALE – ENCORE BROADCAST

In the final must-see episode of the season, Dawn (Michelle Nolden) diagnoses Alex (Erica Durance) with an irregular heartbeat. Before she gets the chance to rest, The Great Randall (Peter Keleghan, MURDOCH MYSTERIES) returns to Hope Zion Hospital after an experimental cancer treatment goes wrong. Meanwhile, Charlie (Michael Shanks) struggles with the implications of his fight with Joel (Daniel Gillies), who is trying to treat a troubled mathematician. Then, in a dramatic turn of events, the life of one of Hope Zion’s staff is left hanging in the balance.

 

Sunday, March 2

1 p.m. – CTV MOVIE – THE WIZARD OF OZ (1939)

The classic tale of THE WIZARD OF OZ follows Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland), who is swept away to a magical land in a tornado and embarks on a quest to see the Wizard who can help her return home. The film, which won two Academy Awards in 1940 for “Best Original Song” and “Best Original Score,” will be honoured during this year’s broadcast, to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the film. THE WIZARD OF OZ will also livestream on CTV.ca and the CTV GO app.

In a new episode of the All-Star Edition of THE AMAZING RACE, Mark and Mallory continue to struggle with communication and one major mistake jeopardizes their chances to keep racing.

7 p.m. – OSCARS RED CARPET LIVE! – NEW SPECIAL – LIVE
Red carpet coverage continues with OSCARS RED CARPET LIVE!
. GOOD MORNING AMERICA anchors Robin Roberts, Lara Spencer, and Jess Cagle, editor of People and editorial director of Entertainment Weekly, return as hosts, along with actor, model, and television host Tyson Beckford. THE OSCARS, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, will air immediately following OSCARS RED CARPET LIVE!.

8:30 p.m. – THE OSCARS – SPECIAL – THREE HOURS – LIVE

Hosted by the hilarious Ellen DeGeneres (THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW) for the second time, THE 86th ANNUAL ACADEMY AWARDS air live across the country from the Dolby Theatre™ at the Hollywood & Highland Center® in Los Angeles. Confirmed presenters include Oscar-winners Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway, and Daniel Day-Lewis. A stellar list of performers will also grace the stage and includes two-time Oscar-nominated actress and multiple Grammy Award®-winning singer Bette Midler; and Oscar-nominees singer-songwriter Karen O performing “The Moon Song” from Her; world-renowned rock band U2 performing “Ordinary Love” from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom; Tony Award®-winning Idina Menzel performing “Let It Go” from Frozen; and Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and producer Pharrell Williams performing “Happy” from Despicable Me 2. Monday, March 3

7 p.m. – ETALK – NEW EPISODE

On one of ETALK’s most-watched broadcasts of the year, the ETALK team including Ben Mulroney, Tanya Kim, Lainey, Danielle McGimsie, and Jessi Cruickshank, report on location from outside the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, providing viewers with exclusive coverage of the most buzzed-about Oscar after parties, backstage moments, and exclusive red carpet highlights not seen during Sunday night’s live broadcast. Danielle McGimsie also brings viewers party highlights from Elton John’s annual post-Oscar bash. ETALK livestreams on CTV.ca and the CTV GO app.

 

8 p.m. – MASTERCHEF CANADA – “Brains Before Beauty” – NEW EPISODE

The 11 finalists face an emotional Mystery Box challenge that takes them back to their roots – and the winner gets a compelling strategic advantage in the Elimination Challenge. The theme is nose-to-tail Alberta Beef, and it becomes abundantly clear that some parts of the cow are definitely more challenging than others. Will the home cooks who get assigned tongue and brain be fatally undermined? The results are surprising.

 

9 p.m. – THE FOLLOWING – “Sacrifice” – NEW EPISODE

Ryan (Kevin Bacon) and the FBI continue their hunt for Lily Gray (Connie Nielsen), and are forced to redirect their search when a new threat enters Max’s (Jessica Stroup) life. Meanwhile, Joe (James Purefoy), Emma (Valorie Curry), and Mandy (Tiffany Boone) arrive at their latest hideout, but quickly realize things aren’t what they seem.

 

10 p.m. – INTELLIGENCE – “Athens” – NEW EPISODE

When Gabriel’s (Josh Holloway) memory is wiped clean after CyberCom is attacked by an aggressive virus, he believes Jin Cong (Will Yun Lee, The Wolverine) is the good guy and helps him locate a top-secret document.

Tuesday, March 4

8 p.m. – MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. – “T.A.H.I.T.I.” – NEW EPISODE

Coulson (Clark Gregg) goes on the attack to save Skye (Chloe Bennet), enlisting the aid of Ward’s (Brett Dalton) former S.O., John Garrett (Bill Paxton, BIG LOVE) – uncovering shocking truths about his own life and S.H.I.E.L.D in the process.

9 p.m. – THE GOLDBERGS – “Goldbergs Never Say Die!” – NEW EPISODE

Adam (Sean Giambrone) is obsessed with the ‘80’s flick, The Goonies, and when Beverly’s (Wendi McLendon-Covey) mother’s jewelry goes missing, Adam bands together with Erica (Hayley Orrantia), Barry (Troy Gentile), and his friends Emmy Mirksy (Stephanie Katherine Grant, DEADTIME STORIES), Dana Caldwell (Natalie Alyn Lind, CRIMINAL MINDS), and Chad Kremp (Jacob Hopkins, TRUE BLOOD) to look for the missing treasure, just like in the movie.

9:30 p.m. – TROPHY WIFE – “Happy Bert Day” – NEW EPISODE

When Bert (Albert Tsai) successfully reads a hundred books, Pete (Bradley Whitford) and Kate (Malin Akerman) have to throw him the birthday party of his dreams, complete with a fire-eater on stilts, professional dancers, and a special visitor. Kate uses the party planning as an excuse to get in with the soccer moms that shun her at all the games, and Diane (Marcia Gay Harden) refuses to admit fault while doing some creative driving with Pete. Meanwhile, Warren (Ryan Scott Lee) starts a bromance with the guy that Hillary (Bailee Madison) has her eye on.

10 p.m. – PERSON OF INTEREST – “RAM” – NEW EPISODE

The secrets of Finch’s (Michael Emerson) operation before he enlisted Reese (Jim Caviezel) are revealed, including shocking ties to present-day events.

Wednesday, March 5

7:30 p.m. – MIXOLOGY – “Liv & Ron” – NEW EPISODE

After a chance meeting outside of the bar, the sweet and innocent Liv (Kate Simses) is charmed by sophisticated Brit Ron (Adam Campbell), and the two have instant chemistry. Meanwhile, Jessica (Alexis Carra) and her frenemy Fab (Frankie Shaw) start a friendly competition to win the affections of Dominic (Adan Canto), the hot bartender. Tom (Blake Lee), Bruce (Andrew Santino), and Cal (Craig Frank) are still on the hunt for some ladies, and even though Tom is smitten over Maya (Ginger Gonzaga), he shockingly comes through and takes one for the team.

8 p.m. – ARROW – “The Promise” – NEW EPISODE

Oliver (Stephen Amell) is shocked when he learns that Slade (Manu Bennett) has come to Starling City. Back on the island, as Oliver, Slade, and Sara (Caity Lotz) prepare to take over the freighter from Ivo (Dylan Neal, MOTIVE), Sara pulls Oliver aside and tells him he needs to kill Ivo to prevent him from telling Slade what happened with Shado (Celina Jade).

9 p.m. – CRIMINAL MINDS – “Persuasion” – NEW EPISODE

Mysterious drowning deaths discovered in the Las Vegas desert have the BAU trying to figure out the true cause and motive for the murders.

 

10 p.m. – CSI – “Killer Moves” – NEW EPISODE

The CSIs investigate the murders of an Elvis impersonator and a bird that are strangely connected.

Thursday, March 6

7:30 p.m. – TWO AND A HALF MEN – “How to Get Rid of Alan Harper” – NEW EPISODE – SPECIAL TIME

Walden (Ashton Kutcher) suspects his new girlfriend is cheating on him. Meanwhile, Alan (Jon Cryer) gets even more intertwined in Lyndsey (Courtney Thorne-Smith) and Larry’s (D.B. Sweeney) relationship when he starts dating Larry’s sister, Gretchen (Kimberly Williams-Paisley, NASHVILLE).

 

8 p.m. – THE BIG BANG THEORY – “The Friendship Turbulence” – NEW EPISODE

After the insults fly, Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) tries to broker the peace between Wolowitz (Simon Helberg) and Sheldon (Jim Parsons). Meanwhile, Penny (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting) is offered an embarrassing movie role and Raj (Kunal Nayyar) asks Amy (Mayim Bialik) to write to a woman on his behalf.

 

8:30 p.m. – SPUN OUT – “Egg Salad” – SERIES PREMIERE – SPECIAL DAY AND TIME

In Part One of the two-part series premiere of CTV’s new original comedy SPUN OUT, after Beckett’s (Paul Campbell, ALMOST HEROES) book bombs, his best friend Nelson (Al Mukadam, THE ASSISTANTS) gets him a job at Dave Lyons PR. But instead of wowing the boss, Dave (Dave Foley, THE MIDDLE), Beckett screws things up for a big client and jeopardizes the reputation of the firm. Thanks to Stephanie’s (Rebecca Dalton, THE L.A. COMPLEX) insight and Dave’s persistence, Beckett realizes he still has a natural affinity for PR and vows to stick it out with his newfound friends.

 

9 p.m. – GREY’S ANATOMY – “You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away” – NEW EPISODE

After an anonymous complaint is issued by one of their own, Grey Sloan Memorial implements a non-fraternizing policy causing the couples to panic. Meanwhile, Emma (Marguerite Moreau, SHAMELESS) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) talk about the future, Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) enjoy a little girl time, and Richard (James Pickens, Jr.) enlists the residents to help research a rare cancer case.

10 p.m. – MOTIVE – “Raw Deal” – SEASON PREMIERE

The Season 2 premiere of CTV’s hit original crime drama MOTIVE sees Detectives Angie Flynn (Kristin Lehman) and Oscar Vega (Louis Ferreira) investigate a suspected suicide victim who may have had some unwelcome help ending his life. The victim had been methodically looking for someone before his death, and finding out who he was searching for will lead the detectives to the motive. But Angie’s focus is compromised when charismatic Sergeant Mark Cross (Warren Christie) joins the team as the new Commander. He and Angie share a mysterious past but she’s not about to reveal any details.

 

Friday, March 7

8 p.m. – SPUN OUT – “Parental Indiscretion” – TIME PERIOD PREMIERE

In Part Two of the two-part series premiere of CTV’s new original comedy SPUN OUT, when it seems like Dave (Dave Foley) and his ex-wife Claudia (Tricia Helfer, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA) may get back together, Stephanie (Rebecca Dalton) will do anything to return her parents to their state of un-marital bliss. Nelson (Al Mukadam) spills the secret about Bryce’s (J.P. Manoux) palatial bathroom, and Abby (Holly Deveaux) hopes to strike it rich when she buys a storage locker full of junk. Barry Weiss (STORAGE WARS) guest stars.

 

8:30 p.m. – KIRSTIE – “Pilot” – SERIES PREMIERE

Broadway diva Madison “Maddie” Banks (Kirstie Alley, FAT ACTRESS) panics when Arlo (Eric Petersen, THE BIG BANG THEORY), the son she gave up for adoption at birth suddenly shows up hoping to connect after the death of his adoptive parents. Though she initially tries to dismiss him, her BFF and assistant Thelma (Rhea Perlman, HUNG) and driver Frank (Michael Richards, SEINFELD) convince Maddie to embrace her motherly side and bring Arlo into her world.

 

9 p.m. – GRIMM – “Mommy Dearest” – NEW EPISODE

A horrible new predator creeps into Portland with its sight set on a young expectant couple, who are close friends of Sergeant Wu (Reggie Lee). Nick (David Giuntoli) and Hank (Russell Hornsby) must figure out how to deal with Wu as the investigation escalates. Meanwhile, Adalind (Claire Coffee) prepares for a special delivery while her enemies are hot on her trail.

10 p.m. – BLUE BLOODS – “Insult to Injury” – NEW EPISODE

When Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) takes a call from a woman who is threatening to kill herself along with the man who killed her parents in a drunk driving accident, he rushes to find her. Meanwhile, Frank (Tom Selleck) accompanies his grandson Sean (Andrew Terraciano) on a class field trip and struggles to get the lead chaperone to loosen the reigns so the kids can have fun.

Sunday, March 9

7 p.m. – ONCE UPON A TIME – “New York City Serenade” – SPRING PREMIERE

After Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) sacrificed his life to stop Pan (Robbie Kay) from enacting another curse, Regina (Lana Parrilla) erases Storybrooke from existence and whisks its residents back to Fairy Tale Land, leaving Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Henry (Jared S. Gilmore) in New York City with no memories of their former lives. But all is not well back in the Enchanted Forest, and Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) comes calling on Emma in an attempt to jog her memory and her to help her family and friends out of a desperate situation.

8 p.m. – THE AMAZING RACE – “Welcome to the Jungle” – NEW EPISODE

Beckett (Stana Katic) is recruited to assist on a Narcotics investigation, but a routine mission turns deadly when an undercover operation goes awry. To survive, Beckett must engage in a battle of wits against some of the most dangerous men in the New York underworld – including a powerful enemy from her past

10 p.m. – THE MENTALIST – “Black Helicopters” – NEW EPISODE

Jane’s (Simon Baker) investigation leads him to join a separatist commune after a U.S. attorney is found dead in Mexico, even though there’s no record of her crossing the border. Also, Rigsby (Owain Yeoman) and Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti) convince JJ LaRoche (Pruitt Taylor Vance) to help them discover who is stalking former CBI members.

Monday, March 10

8 p.m. – MASTERCHEF CANADA – “Major Steaks” – NEW EPISODE

The home cooks face their biggest team challenge yet at Canadian Forces Base Trenton. Using pop-up army field kitchens, they have to make a delicious steak dinner for 151 troops.  Battling unfamiliar equipment, inclement weather, and each other, the teams fight to avoid the dreaded pressure test. But back at the MASTERCHEF CANADA Kitchen the losing team must once again go to war, facing a classic, technique-driven fish dish that will send at least one of them home.

 

9 p.m. – THE FOLLOWING – “The Messenger” – NEW EPISODE

After a tragic turn of events, Ryan (Kevin Bacon) attempts to find the man who originally taught Joe (James Purefoy) to kill in hopes of finding new answers. Meanwhile, at the compound, Joe tries to get his bearings, while Emma (Valorie Curry) and Mandy (Tiffany Boone) wait for him to reveal his new plan.

 

10 p.m. – INTELLIGENCE – “Cain and Gabriel” – NEW EPISODE

Gabriel (Josh Holloway), Riley (Meghan Ory), and Lillian (Marg Helgenberger) head to San Francisco when the FBI’s Witness Protection database is hacked and someone is blackmailing witnesses to carry out a terrorist attack. The stakes are even higher for Lillian, as her daughter lives in the city.

Tuesday, March 11

8 p.m. – MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. – “Yes Men” – NEW EPISODE

When Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team are attacked by Lorelei (Elena Satine, MAGIC CITY) – a deadly seductress who escaped from Asgard – Thor’s Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander, Thor: The Dark World), her long-time nemesis, steps in to try to save them

9 p.m. – THE GOLDBERGS – “For Your Own Good” – NEW EPISODE

When Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey) changes Murray’s (Jeff Garlin) favourite easy chair to something new and ‘better’, he flips out, and repays the favour by removing the oven in the kitchen so she can cook food in the ‘better’ microwave. Soon, it becomes a heated game of back and forth between the couple as more things around the house get changed.

9:30 p.m. – TROPHY WIFE – “The Wedding – Part One” – NEW EPISODE

When Kate (Malin Akerman) finds Pete’s (Bradley Whitford) old wedding videos with Diane (Marcia Gay Harden) and Jackie (Michaela Watkins), she realizes she robbed herself of that special memory by eloping and is now determined to have a redo and plans her dream wedding. Meanwhile, Diane decides to take her relationship with Russ Bradley Morrison (Dennis Haysbert, THE UNIT) public, and Jackie struggles to tell Bert (Albert Tsai) she’s dating Sad Steve (Nat Faxon, BEN AND KATE).

Wednesday, March 12

7:30 p.m. – MIXOLOGY – “Bruce & Jessica” – NEW EPISODE

Bruce (Andrew Santino) is as abrasive as they come and when he sets his eyes on Jessica (Alexis Carra), a single mom from New Jersey, he thinks she’s easy prey. He’s very quickly rejected, but he ignores Tom (Blake Lee) and Cal’s (Craig Frank) advice to abort the mission and he continues to pursue her.
