REGINA (June 17, 2013) – CTV News Regina has been honoured by the Radio and Television Digital News Association (RTDNA), with the prestigious national Bert Cannings Award for Best Newscast in a medium market. Bestowed last Saturday, June 15 during a gala event in Toronto, this award is given for overall excellence in the presentation of a regularly scheduled news broadcast.
This year’s award recognizes CTV NEWS AT SIX (June 27, 2012 newscast) and its comprehensive coverage of severe prairie storms which imperiled the lives and properties of Saskatchewan residents. The broadcast featured the combined efforts of CTV News reporters across the province as they tracked storm locations, the mounting damage caused, the aftermath of a tornado, and the activities of international storm chasers.
“I am very proud of our CTV News team,” said David Fisher, Vice-President and General Manager of CTV Saskatchewan. “Each day I see their dedication to excellence. They are most deserving of this national honour.”
“Timely, factual reporting that informs is always critical, especially when public safety is at risk,” said J.C. Garden, Acting News Director for CTV News Regina. “Thank you to the RTDNA for recognizing our efforts in that regard.”
In April, 2013 the same CTV NEWS AT SIX newscast was also the recipient of the Prairie Region RTDNA award for Best Newscast in a medium market.
