“I have been very fortunate to have been living my dream job for more than 40 years; there hasn’t been a day I haven’t looked forward to going to work – a place where I have learned new things every day,” said MacDonald. “I’m honoured that the people of Saskatoon and Saskatchewan have allowed me into their homes every night for more than 40 years, and I’m proud to have worked with some of the best journalists in the business.”
“As both a journalist and broadcaster, Rob has been a profound part of Saskatoon life for more than four decades,” said David Fisher, Vice-President and General Manager, CTV Saskatoon. “We’re so grateful to Rob for his many years of dedicated service, leadership, and professionalism, and we wish him the very best as he moves on to a new chapter in his life. He will be missed.”
Born and raised in Saskatchewan, MacDonald began his broadcasting career in 1973 at CHAB in Moose Jaw. In 1975 he joined CKXL radio in Calgary for one year, returning to Saskatchewan in March 1976 to join the CTV Saskatoon newsroom (then known as CFQC). Within months, MacDonald was anchoring the late night newscasts at 11:30 p.m. In 1988, he moved into the anchor chair of the 6 p.m. supper-hour newscast, which later became CTV NEWS AT SIX.
