TORONTO (March 4, 2021) – When COVID-19 was declared a pandemic in March 2020, few expected that a year later millions would still be working from home, wearing masks, and enduring lockdowns. W5, Canada’s most-watched documentary series and North America’s longest-running investigative series, discusses how the world is still reeling from the deadly – and mutating – virus in COVID: YEAR TWO, an hour-long documentary special airing this Saturday, March 6 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on CTV, the CTV and CTV News apps, and CTVNews.ca.
As the world approaches the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic, W5 Host and Managing Editor Avery Haines helps shine a light on how the most vulnerable Canadians have fared – from how hospitals and frontline workers survived the surge under extreme conditions to the plight of family-run small businesses, and how, or if, the economy will rebound.
W5 gives viewers a rare glimpse inside a long-term care facility hit hard by the virus. Haines talks to an isolated resident about her fears and hopes for the future. A Toronto couple forced to close their restaurant now look to reinvent themselves for a post-pandemic world. Haines also sits down with a psychiatrist who offers insight into surviving the isolation of lockdowns, as well as an economist who details the best way to rebuild the economy, and what ‘recovery’ means for Generation Z.
“This has been a year like no other, and many Canadians are wondering what the second year of COVID-19 may have in store for us,” said Haines. “With this documentary special, we set out to get answers to questions the world is asking: how much longer can seniors suffer in isolation? Is this the death of the small business? What is the future for young people trying to enter a devastated workforce? And are we prepared for “The Big One” – a virus that might be more contagious and more deadly than COVID-19?”
In addition to airing Saturdays at 7 p.m. ET on CTV, W5 also airs Saturdays at 10 p.m. on CTV2 and Sundays on CTV News Channel (see local listings). W5 is also available on demand at CTVNews.ca/W5, and on the CTV and CTV News apps.
