REGINA (February 02, 2013) – CTV Regina’s Wayne Mantyka has been awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. The medal was presented Friday Jan. 25 at a special ceremony held in the venerable Hotel Saskatchewan in Regina. Mantyka was recognized for his nearly 40 years as a reporter and video journalist. He joined CKCK TV (now CTV Regina) in 1975. The medal was presented to Mantyka by the Honorable Andrew Sheer, Speaker of the House of Commons and MP for Regina-Qu’Appelle.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal recognizes recipients for outstanding contributions to their communities and long-term exemplary service. In addition to being a symbol of remarkable achievement, the Diamond Jubilee Medal is also a celebration of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s 60 years of service and devotion to our great country. Mantyka previously received the 2007 RTDNA Award for Lifetime Achievement – Television – Prairie Region.

“Wayne’s dedication to fair and accurate news coverage and to CTV News is matched only by his commitment to the community,” said Carl Worth, News Director, CTV Regina. “He is a fine example for us all, especially for young journalists starting out.”

In his personal time, Mantyka volunteers in the Regina school system. He has also personally contributed his time to The Salvation Army. In 2012, The Salvation Army Prairie West Region, an organization at which Mantyka volunteers, was selected as a finalist for the 2012 Torch Award. The Torch Award is granted to organizations that have contributed positively to their communities while performing ethically in their business practices.

Others recognized with the Queen’s Jubilee Medals on the evening included Jim Hopson, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
