DAILY PLANET’s Supersize This! Week goes big from March 9–13, exclusively on Discovery
Highlights from DAILY PLANET’s “Supersize This! Week” include:
Game of Thrones Strong Man
He plays Ser Gregor Clegane (a.k.a. The Mountain) on HBO’s GAME OF THRONES, but it turns out Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson is even more of a mountain in real life. The 6’9”, 419-pound (190 kg) supersized human recently broke a 1,000-year-old Viking record for strength by carrying a 9.75-meter, 650 kg log for five steps at The World’s Strongest Viking competition in Norway.
Supersized Cow Art
Derek Klingenberg is a farmer from Kansas who takes DAILY PLANET behind the scenes to show how he uses cows to make art. Using a group of cows following a feed truck around, Klingenberg gets the cattle perfectly positioned to produce an exclusive piece of art for “SuperSize This! Week” viewers.
Panama Gate
Fifty-million cubic metres of material has been removed, and enormous gates weighing 3,900 tons are being eased into place to expand the historic Panama Canal. Perched on 400 self-propelled wheels, the installation of these seven-story-high gates is a tricky feat managed by a huge team…very, very slowly.
Sudhakar’s Cars
Sudhakar Yadav has built a collection of over 200 wacky cars using oversized everyday objects, all over-the-top and all handmade! His crazy colossal collection includes a boot, a cigarette, a toilet, a dining table, a handbag, and much, much more. They’re all showcased at his own supersized museum.
Golden Gate Zipper Truck
For 50 years, all that separated the lanes of traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge were flimsy pylons. Now, a high-tech movable barrier has been installed to help with traffic flow at various times of the day. DAILY PLANET takes viewers on a ride-along as the mesmerizing Zipper Truck transfers the line of 1,500-pound steel and concrete barriers from one lane to another, right under its belly.
World’s Biggest GIF
This animated GIF is like no other. It’s so big it can only be properly seen from space. Created by an enigmatic British graffiti artist, it’s a quirky monument to the visual possibilities of technology.
Vortex Cannon
Mark Haile from HMS Engineering in the UK takes time away from his massive engineering projects to showcase his giant vortex cannon. Used by farmers to disrupt hail clouds, the monster device fires doughnut-shaped vortices of gas into the sky.About DAILY PLANET
