TORONTO (August 17, 2017) – On the heels of its most-watched year in the series’ 23-year history, Discovery’s flagship program DAILY PLANET continues to go where no one else dares with Boldly Go Week, airing Monday, Aug. 28 through Friday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT. Winning its timeslot among entertainment specialty channels in key adult demographics, DAILY PLANET goes behind the scenes in the most extreme and immersive ways imaginable for its season opening week as it casts an inquisitive lens on those fearless few who bravely venture to the most thrilling places on Earth and beyond. For its first theme week of the season, DAILY PLANET co-hosts Ziya Tong and Dan Riskin introduce viewers to an athlete trying to lift a helicopter on his shoulders, visits the Rollercoaster Restaurant, where meals arrive to the table at 30 kilometres per hour, and joins Joerg Sprave, the Internet’s go-to slingshot expert as he goes supersonic. Subscribers can access live streaming of DAILY PLANET through the Discovery GO app, and catch up on past episodes on demand on the Discovery GO app and at Discovery.ca. Encore presentations of DAILY PLANET are available on Discovery Science at 10 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. PT during a nationwide free preview from August 24 – September 21 through participating television service providers across Canada, including Bell, Bell Aliant, BellMTS, Rogers, Telus, Shaw, Shaw Direct, Cogeco, Eastlink, Northwestel, SaskTel, and Videotron, along with several CCSA members. Highlights from DAILY PLANET’s “Boldly Go Week” include: “Joerg Goes Supersonic” Joerg Sprave, the YouTuber and inventor who produces the viral Slingshot Channel, has accepted many challenges from viewers. Now he faces his most difficult request yet – engineering a way to  make a rubber-powered valve  propel a piece of LEGO to a supersonic speed of 1,235 kilometres per hour. “Surviving Extreme Cold” To help improve the technology that rescuers use on-scene, the team at a state-of-the-art Norwegian lab sends DAILY PLANET’s Dan Riskin into an induced and carefully monitored state of hypothermia. Riskin experiences first hand what it’s like to have hypothermia while waiting to be rescued. “Austrian Rock” Franz Muellner, the “Austrian Rock” and “World’s Strongest Man” competitor, hopes to beat his own record for the heaviest weight supported on shoulders – a record Muellner has repeatedly improved since he first set it back in 2005. DAILY PLANET joins Muellner as he aims to lift a helicopter on his shoulders. “Drone BASE Jump” DAILY PLANET captures the first-ever drone BASE jump – the next extreme sport! Trusting his friend’s engineering know-how, Latvian daredevil Ingus Augstkalns dangles beneath a 28-propeller drone at a height of 330 metres, before letting go. “Rollercoaster Restaurant” DAILY PLANET co-host Ziya Tong has a reservation to experience mouthwatering mayhem first-hand! In a truly one-of-a-kind restaurant, delicious dishes glide through loops to the guests’ tables at speeds up to 30 kilometres per hour, while robots mix cocktails to their own beat accompanied by wild lightshows. This spectacle of technology brings the culinary experience to an entirely new – and hopefully delicious – level. Source: Numeris
