Dave Agar to Retire from NEWSTALK 1010 After More Than 40 Years in Broadcasting

TORONTO (March 4, 2016) – NEWSTALK 1010 announced today that veteran news anchor Dave Agar will deliver his final morning program broadcast on Thursday, March 31. A familiar voice and personality to radio listeners across the Greater Toronto Area, Agar has been providing newscasts, commentary, and interviews for more than four decades. “After waking up at 1:30 a.m. for so long the timing feels right, and I’m excited to explore what lies ahead,” said Agar. “It has been an honour and privilege to provide our listeners with information they may have found relevant to their lives.” “With his trademark call-to-action commentary that truly cut to the heart of the issues, Dave has earned the trust and respect of our listeners and exposed eye-level importance to the most complex stories,” said Mike Bendixen, Program Director, NEWSTALK 1010. “He is a journalist’s journalist, and we wish him the very best in his retirement.” Agar started his on-air career at CJRN in Niagara Falls in 1970. Four years later he accepted a job offer from Standard Broadcasting at CKFM (Virgin Radio). In 1989, he moved down the hall to NEWSTALK 1010 (CFRB) where he has been for 27 years. During that time he has been a news director, news anchor, public affairs host and commentator including the last 6 years on MOORE IN THE MORNING. A veteran news anchor, Agar has covered stories pivotal to Torontonians, including Canada’s largest mass shooting on Danzig Street in downtown Toronto, the massive ice storm in Toronto and subsequent blackout of 2013, and the controversies surrounding former Toronto Mayor Rob Ford.
