TORONTO (April 15, 2015) – Human ingenuity created the modern world. This technology links society globally, and shapes the future of the planet. Premiering Sunday, May 3 at 8 p.m. ET/9 p.m. PT, Discovery presents MANKIND FROM SPACE, a sweeping two-hour exploration of the invisible webs of interconnectivity that weave across the earth in mind-boggling intricacy. Using raw satellite data, cutting-edge CGI technology, and the input of NASA and the world’s foremost scientists and experts in globalization, the unique and thought-provoking special examines the groundbreaking human innovations that have transformed the planet, creating an interconnected world of extraordinary complexity.

Earth’s astounding interconnectivity has been at least 12,000 years in the making. Innovations in agriculture, commerce, power, transportation, communication, and technology have forever changed the course of civilization. These human advances led to the creation of the modern wonders of the world and the development of an intricate web of networks that span the globe, linking humanity together and providing for near limitless potential. However, this immense success has also triggered a vast population explosion, straining worldwide networks. Civilization faces new challenges that will require the long tradition of human ingenuity to pursue bold new innovations to ensure a sustainable future.
