EDMONTON (October 23, 2013) – Viewers elected CTV Edmonton as their #1 choice for coverage of the city’s 2013 mayoral election results, and also the region’s #1 program this past Monday night. The moment the polls closed, CTV News’ ELECTION 2013 was on-air and online providing Edmontonians with results as they came in. The first station to declare Don Iveson the new mayor of Edmonton at 9:03 p.m., CTV Edmonton’s ELECTION 2013 coverage delivered on its promise to provide unparalleled election night coverage.
Ratings data from BBM Canada confirms that on Monday, Oct. 21, CTV Edmonton’s election coverage handily bested the competition among the A25-54 demo with a 6.6 rating, a 27% advantage over Global’s election coverage (4.8). ELECTION 2013 more than doubled Global’s coverage across the W18-49 demo with a 7.8 rating.
“The mayoral election was important to Edmontonians, who wanted thorough, accurate, and timely coverage,” said Dan Kobe, CTV Director of News and Public Affairs. “Our commitment to providing news viewers can trust – immediate and accurate election results – mirrors the level of service excellence we offer viewers every day on our newscasts.”
Anchors Daryl McIntyre and Carrie Doll, along with three-term City Councilor Kim Krushell, provided unique coverage including up-to-the-minute context and analysis not available to viewers anywhere else. CTV Edmonton’s team of experienced journalists were fanned out across the city, sharing breaking news and stories with Edmontonians as election night unfolded – both in the mayoral race and in all the wards.
Additionally, edmonton.ctvnews.ca logged a 165% increase in traffic, with total site visits up 118%. The website provided not just results, but updated editorial coverage and exclusive web-only videos in the weeks leading up to the election.
