Each one-hour episode of FOO FIGHTERS: SONICHIGHWAYS is devoted to a different American musical landmark,chronicling its history and exploring its cultural essence through Grohl’sinterviews with the people that have defined and been shaped by each city’sunique musical identity. Episodes are set in Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles,Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Seattle, and Washington D.C., and featureappearances from local legends who have become the musical and culturalambassadors of those cities, including Buddy Guy, JoeWalsh, DollyParton, RickNielsen, Bad Brains, ChuckD, GibbyHaynes, Allen Toussaint,and Gary Clark, Jr.,among others.
For the album and series, Grohl and bandmates Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel,Chris Shiflett, and Pat Smear, along with producer ButchVig, recorded one song at a legendary studio in each of these cities. Allsongs feature local legends sitting in, with every lyric written in anexperimental style: Grohl postponed putting down words until the last dayof each session in order to be inspired by the experiences, interviews, andpersonalities that became part of the process. Additional artists whoparticipated in the recordings include Charlie Gabriel,NoraGuthrie, the PreservationHall Jazz Band, TromboneShorty,CarrieUnderwood, and many more.
