During what may be the most unpredictable year ever, ETALK co-anchor Lainey Lui shares her predictions for the 72ND EMMY® AWARDS, airing on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CTV and everywhere CTV content can be found. Lui’s predictions dive into the questions many are wondering about, including what to expect from the host, the programs that may take home some of the top honours of the night, and whether she believes there are any series that will sweep the awards. Covering the most buzz-worthy moments from television’s biggest night, ETALK also recaps the 72nd EMMY AWARDS on Monday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on CTV, 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on CTV2, and everywhere CTV content can be found. Here are some of Lui’s predictions for this year’s Emmy Awards: While the pandemic has shifted many of the ways in which television is produced, what are you most excited to see during this year’s virtual Emmy Awards broadcast? I am so excited about these Emmys because… they’ve NEVER done a show like this before! Nominees and presenters will be shot remotely  apparently there will be as many as 140 live feeds going into the main Emmys control center. Managing that and going to air, live, will be such a broadcast accomplishment. Also, major stars like Jennifer Aniston, Sandra Oh, and Issa Rae are going to be filming from their homes – perhaps by the pool, or maybe in the bedroom. And then, there’s the fashion. Who will just be kicking it in their sweats? Who’s going to put on a full ball gown? If you’re a potential winner, do you still dress up for the occasion? Comedian Jimmy Kimmel returns to host the Emmy Awards for the third time this year. How do you think his hosting of the awards will be different compared to previous years? Jimmy Kimmel will be hosting live from Staples Center so it’ll be interesting to see if they incorporate some kind of musical or dance performance. He’ll be interacting, however, with presenters and nominees remotely, so the energy will totally be different. And of course, he will be the face of it all if there are any tech delays or difficulties. All of his hosting abilities will be put to the test, he will have to think quickly on his feet to make it entertaining and keep us engaged. What program do you predict to win Outstanding Drama Series? Why? SUCCESSION. Last year the show won for Best Writing (Jesse Armstrong) and he was considered an underdog in the category. This year, SUCCESSION is coming in as an overwhelming favourite. Viewers love the show and they love the ensemble. It’s critically acclaimed, it’s a hit on social media, and it’s exactly the kind of series that the television academy loves to anoint. What program do you predict to win Outstanding Comedy Series? Why? SCHITT’S CREEK is the darling of the field. The series is adored by its fans, but it’s also beloved among actors and celebrities. Stars are constantly name-checking SCHITT’S CREEK and it’s exactly the kind of smart and sweet comedy that viewers fall in love with. It was also very much overlooked in earlier seasons, and now that it’s over, Emmy voters will want to recognize the consistent quality of the series over its six seasons.
