  • Making its international premiere as an official selection of the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival, THE PANTHERS is a music-influenced, social justice drama series from New Zealand that’s based on a true story. Over six hour-long episodes the series covers a devastating and resonant period in New Zealand’s history through the dramatization of the founding of The Polynesian Panthers – a revolutionary social justice movement directly inspired by the Black Panther movement in the U.S. The 1974-set narrative follows a young man who is the black sheep of his Tongan family who is frustrated by his community being stuck in a broken economic and criminal justice system. In the face of increasingly aggressive racial-profiling from the government and police force, he forms his own revolutionary movement The Polynesian Panthers, while also trying to juggle his conservative parents’ expectations, and romance with a street queen. All six episodes drop on Friday, Feb. 4.

What was supposed to be a quick stop, turns into a labyrinth of family secrets and lies Tommy thought were long buried. One step leads to another, and Tommy quickly finds himself in Chicago’s drug game, inserting himself between the city’s two biggest crews. In a city divided by race, Tommy straddles the line, ultimately becoming the lynchpin that not only unites them – but holds the power to watch them crumble. Tommy uses his outsider status to his advantage, breaking all the local rules and rewriting them on his quest to become the biggest drug dealer in Chicago. The series follows a weekly release schedule with new episodes dropping Sundays.

FEBRUARY 7 – Crave Original Documentary TRIUMPH: ROCK & ROLL MACHINE *Documentary Premiere*

  • Directed by Banger Films’ Sam Dunn and Marc Ricciardelli, the Crave Original documentary TRIUMPH: ROCK & ROLL MACHINE chronicles the career of the multi-gold and platinum-selling power rock band, Triumph. This rock trio – which includes drummer/singer Gil Moore, singer/guitarist Rik Emmett, and bassist/keyboardist Mike Levine – dominated North American radio and MTV in the ‘80s. Despite being one of the world’s biggest rock bands, the group split at the height of their fame and seemingly disappeared without explanation to their fans or media. Set to a mesmerizing visual backdrop of spandex, ‘80s hair, and explosive pyro, TRIUMPH: ROCK & ROLL MACHINE delivers a deeper story about fame and the human condition, while chronicling the band’s reunion for what might be the very last time they play music together. The documentary streams Monday, Feb. 7 on Crave.
